In Memoriam: Julie Harris
Tony, Emmy and Grammy award winner Julie Harris, who delighted soap audiences as KNOTS LANDING’s Lilimae Clemens from 1980-87, died on August 24 at the age of 87. The cause was congestive heart failure, said Francesca James (Evelyn, AMC et al), a longtime friend who was with her when she died. “I’m still in sort of a place of shock,” James told the Associated Press. “She was, really, the greatest influence in my life.” "I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of the singular Julie Harris," tweeted Alec Baldwin (ex-Joshua, KL, et al). Michael Sabatino (ex-Lawrence, DAYS et al), who worked with Harris closely on KL when he played Chip Roberts from 1982-83, tweeted, “Lucky and blessed was I to have shared a walk with the lovely and supremely gifted Julie Harris. Thank you for your kindness. God Bless.” “She loved to read,” Michele Lee (ex-Karen, KL) told showbiz411.com. “She had a giant magnifying glass that swung over her chair. She was voracious. And you know, she was older, but she didn’t look much older. She had that impish smile. She had a childlike joy…. Julie was a lady. She never said a bad word about anyone.” Lee’s KL on-screen daughter, Claudia Lonow (ex-Diana), tweeted, “I remember the great Julie Harris, when asked what it takes to be a great actress saying, “concentration, relaxation and discipline.” RIP”
