Kelly Monaco’s GH On-Set Good-Bye: ‘It Will Not Be The Last You See Of Me’
A video of Kelly Monaco’s good-bye to her General Hospital family on her last day has surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) from a user named Pam (@pjporten) that shows the actress wearing the wardrobe from her last day (Sam’s hospital gown), in addition to pants and sneakers, holding a bouquet of flowers and addressing everyone who was on set for her last moments as Sam McCall.
Saying Good-Bye
Pam wrote alongside the video, “I came across this beautiful video of Kelly’s last words after her final scene on #gh . 21 yrs of dedication and loyalty playing Sam McCall ….. shared with the cast and crew. What an emotional journey! 👏🏻🩷😢🩷💔🩷 #kellymonaco”
The video begins with Monaco saying, “I’ve been on this lot for 25 years and you have all been my family. Not only my second family, but my first family. And I just thank each and every one of you for all these memories and this experience that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life.”
The star then had one person she wanted to make a special shout-out to — the ABC soap’s Daytime Emmy winning casting director, who launched her daytime career by casting her as Livvie Locke on Port Charles back in 2000. “Mark Teschner — he started this whole journey for me and it has been a wild ride. I know… it will not be the last that you see of me,” she said, ending her speech and walking off set where the video shows everyone clapping wildly for her and wanting to say their own special good-byes. One person even commented, “Those flowers are bigger than you, Kelly!”
While her GH on-set family was everything to Monaco, so were the fans, which she expressed to Digest in an interview back in 2013. “I don’t really think about the effect that my character has on the audience,” she said. “I think the only time I really get a grasp on it and a light is kind of shined upon it is during our fan club weekend and stuff like that, when you really get to meet the fan base face to face and listen to their personal stories about why they watch the show and what you do that makes their day a little bit better.
