Here’s What General Hospital Fans Think Carly Should Do About Jack Brennan’s Betrayal

Comments

Carly (Laura Wright) has been in a bind ever since Jason (Steve Burton) told her that her boyfriend, Jack Brennan, (Chris McKenna) has been lying to her on General Hospital and recruited Carly’s daughter Josslyn (Eden McCoy) into the WSB as a spy. From the get-go, Jason cautioned her against confronting either one of them, because blowing Joss’s cover could potentially put her in greater danger or get her reassigned to a mission far, far away. So what is a woman of action like Carly to do?

Decisions, Decisions

Carly is known for having a short fuse, often shooting off her mouth and thinking later — especially when Jason’s not there to remind her to count to 10 — but she can’t afford to do that in this particular situation. And when Soap Opera Digest polled GH viewers, asking what they thought Carly should do about Jack, fans didn’t hold back! For 10% of respondents, the obvious course of action for Carly to take is precisely the one she has opted for: seeking revenge against Jack. However, for this group, the caveat was that once she’d made him pay, she should then allow him to win her back. This section of the audience clearly thinks that Jack’s behavior doesn’t necessarily need to be a nail in the coffin of the Jack/Carly romance the show has been building for so many months — provided that she make sure he learns his lesson! While it may be impossible for Carly to imagine truly ever trusting Jack again, knowing the lengths that she would go to if he ever betrayed her again could very well put her in the driver’s seat — and that’s exactly where Carly likes to sit.

To Err is Human…

The next most popular response, earning 11% of the votes, were from those in favor of Carly choosing forgiveness. After all, Jack was honest with her from the beginning in telling her that due to the nature of his position with the WSB, there were things he would never be able to share with her. And while her confidence that she could handle that was likely due in no small part to her mistaken belief that his secrets wouldn’t hit quite so close to home, she still willingly entered into a relationship with him. It’s clear to these fans that because Carly knew what she was getting into, it’s unfair for her to hold him withholding the truth about Josslyn from her against him.

The Heart of the Matter

A full 15% of fans believe that instead of taking such drastic measures as forming an alliance with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) to try to take Brennan down, Carly should opt not to take Jason’s advice about staying silent and instead confront her lover. That’s the only way for her to get his side of the story, and perhaps giving him the chance to explain how and why he came to recruit Joss — plus gaining critical insight into how much internal angst and feelings of guilt he has experienced as a result of not to be able to be transparent with her — would soften Carly’s fury and get the two of them back on track. Even if that’s a long shot, breaking up with him to his face as opposed to linking up with Valentin and risking going to jail for treason might be the smarter move for Carly!

Best Served Cold

Not surprisingly, a healthy 29% are totally on board with Carly plotting revenge and doing whatever is necessary to make Jack pay for all that he has done to her and to Josslyn. It’s one thing to mess with Carly, but he should have known better than to involve her daughter. That is an unforgivable sin in Carly’s book, especially given how vulnerable she was in opening up to him about how gutted she was by the death of her son Morgan and how she wouldn’t be able to survive the loss of another child — a confession she made at the very same time that Jack knew very well that Joss’s life was on the line at the Five Poppies! This section of the audience agrees with Carly that enlisting Josslyn into a career where she is regularly risking her life for a living can’t go unanswered. And now that she’s determined to do just that, Jack would be wise to watch his back, because this is a woman who was able to take on the Five Families and come out on top!

These Boots Are Made For Walking

The very top vote-getter in our poll, earning 35% of the vote, was the idea of Carly taking the high road by breaking up with Jack and simply walking away. As these members of the audience see it, wasting more time and energy on Jack — not to mention risking a prison sentence! — is something that Carly should deem just not worth it. While there was a time when Carly would lash out at those she felt had wronged her, she has evolved since the days that scheming and plotting was as natural to her as breathing. At this point in her life, Carly has way too much to lose if she goes the revenge route and keeps breaking the law to make Jack pay for his deception; she’s a major player in Port Charles as a business owner, and she has both children and grandchildren who need her love and support. And in the end, it might just hurt Jack the most to know she didn’t deem him important enough to get even with.
