GH Exclusive: Eden McCoy On Josslyn’s ‘Bittersweet’ Reunion With Cameron

General Hospital‘s Josslyn Jacks is pretty hard up for silver linings these days, what with the recent death of her lover, Evan Hofer’s Dex Heller. But she is poised to receive a very welcome blast from the past in the form of her childhood friend and former boyfriend, Cameron Webber, played once again by William Lipton. Eden McCoy (Josslyn) tells Digest that she couldn’t have been more pleased about Cam’s surprise visit.
Reunited And It Feels So Good
McCoy worked closely with Lipton during their years as co-stars (2018-23) and got a heads-up about his Port Charles comeback straight from the source. “He called me a few weeks ago to tell me that he was coming back, and obviously, I was just ecstatic,” she says. “I love this thing they do with him [since Cameron left town to enroll at Stanford University] where they bring him back for an episode here and there. The last time,” in March of this year, “it was Spencer’s funeral that he was back for.”
Cameron’s trip home this time around is inspired by a more festive occasion: the holiday season. But when Cam encounters Joss, he quickly learns why she’s not quite in the mood to deck the halls. “Dex had died literally the night before,” McCoy reminds. “And Josslyn has to reveal to Cam that this has just happened and that there are no answers [about what killed him] and all of this stuff.”
The history between Cam, Joss and Dex — Joss and Cam’s breakup was precipitated by Joss sleeping with Dex while she was still very much in a relationship with Cam — gave the scenes extra emotional depth, McCoy notes. “It’s this weird, bittersweet thing,” she muses. “Because, obviously, Josslyn cheated on him with Dex, and now Dex is dead.” Ever the gentleman, “Cam leaves such space for Josslyn in those moments to be vulnerable and to grieve and to be upset in front of him, and not to feel bad [about betraying Cam with Dex]. Their conversation is really beautiful. I think Josslyn feels a lot of gratitude for their friendship and for all of the the time that they got together.”
McCoy cherished the chance to share those on-screen moments with Lipton. “I am so happy that the show did that,” she says of having Cam and Joss cross at this momentous time in Joss’s life. “It was so weighted and so beautiful. I was just crying the whole time. I don’t even think I’m crying in the scenes, but I remember that Will, who is such a sweetheart, was just like, ‘I’m just so happy to see you!’ and there I was, crying in between takes. It was a really sweet reunion and I was super-excited that he was there.”
And that she got quality time with him when the cameras weren’t rolling. “We caught up all day in between filming, and he’s doing so well,” McCoy beams. “He just wrapped a huge show that Amazon picked up,” The Runarounds, “and he gets to be a musician in it with his real-life bandmates, who are so cool and so awesome. I’ve known them since we all like 13 years old, working together! I’m so excited to see it and so happy for him. I love when good things happen to actual good people!”
