General Hospital Recap: Jason And Tracy Mourn Monica, Dante and Gio Bond, Britt Begs For A Job and More

Comments

The September 18 episode of General Hospital was full of tears for Jason (Steve Burton) and Tracy (Jane Elliot) as they privately grieved for Monica (Leslie Charleson) before alerting the rest of the Quartermaine family. Elsewhere, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) looked for employment, Gio (Giovanni Mazza) agreed to family time with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), and more. Keep reading to see how it all played out.

Job Fair

Elizabeth was far from thrilled to see Britt at the hospital, especially when she brought up how she’d given birth to “Ben.” Britt needed prescriptions filled, so Liz added her to the list of walk-ins, but Dr. Westbourne tried to pull rank since her picture was on the esteemed memorial wall. Shutting her down, Liz demanded that Britt wait her turn just like everyone else. Lucas approached the hub to get his next case and balked that he’d have to treat Britt. She wasn’t thrilled about being Dr. Jones’s patient, either, but reluctantly agreed to an examination so she could get the medications needed to keep her Huntington’s at bay. Britt explained that she’d been taking an experimental drug and Lucas marveled that she displayed no symptoms of the disease. As he exited the exam room, Lucas pointed out that the prescriptions were going to cost a pretty penny, and Britt worried about her lack of money.

Going back out to the hub, Britt asked Liz if she could see Dr. Randolph or Dr. Robinson. She then met with the co-chiefs of staff, both of whom were stunned to see her alive and well, in Portia’s office. “It feels so good to be back here at G.H.! I know how busy you both are, so I’ll save you the time and the hassle of asking,” Britt chirped. “Of course, I’ll come back to work.”

Terry noted that Britt’s resurrection was medical fraud since she’d been declared dead by someone at the hospital. The doctors asked for an explanation, but Britt couldn’t share much about her recent top-secret project. Terry suggested that Britt work on getting her license reinstated and apply for a position at nearby Mercy Hospital, but Britt wanted to work at G.H. While Terry couldn’t get past Britt falsifying records, Portia had more compassion for the difficult situation Britt might have found herself in and suggested that perhaps they could find a position for her. After consulting with the hospital board, Terry and Portia offered Britt a job as intake supervisor in the ER with a year’s probation. Although she felt like the role was beneath her, Britt accepted the position.

End of an Era

Tracy initially refused to believe it when Jason told her that Monica had passed away. They both teared up as, heartbroken, he recounted how he’d found her unresponsive. After Jason called 911, Tracy uncharacteristically pulled her nephew into a hug as they both cried. As they waited for the paramedics, Tracy commented that she was grateful it was only her and Jason at the mansion, Jason concurring that Monica would have hated a big deal being made over her. “Considering the impact she’s had on this family and the entire community, that is a battle she’s gonna lose,” Tracy chuckled. As Tracy dealt with the sheriff, Jason wandered into the living room and broke down while holding a framed photo of his mother.

After the sheriff left, Tracy and Jason stood together in the foyer, staring up at the grand staircase. “I’ve never known this place without her in it,” Jason realized. “Of course you haven’t. It’s Monica’s house,” Tracy quipped through her tears, gently cupping his face with her hand. Then, Tracy groused that giving Monica the house was the stupidest thing her brother Alan had ever done, and Monica always held it over her head. After flashing back to a fight they’d had one Christmas about the things in “Monica’s house,” Tracy told Jason that while she and his mother rarely got along, she respected Monica immensely.

Jason recalled the rough patch he and his mom had gone through after his accident, and that it took some time to realize Monica’s love for him was unconditional. After flashing back to a tense conversation he’d once had with his mom, Jason admitted through tears, “I wish that I had memories of growing up with Monica as my mom. I should have asked her while I had the chance.”

Tracy offered to fill in the blanks, since she and Monica talked about Jason often during their evening tea dates. She shared how hurt Monica had been by Alan’s affair with Susan Moore and his mistress’s subsequent pregnancy, and that she wouldn’t even allow baby Jason into the house. But then, one night when he was an infant, Jason got sick and Monica was called to take care of him. “She walked into that gatehouse, and you were the child her husband had with another woman,” Tracy recalled through tears. “But when she left — and I quote — ‘You were my son,’ ” she said.

“She loved you very much,” Tracy assured Jason, reaching over to wipe a tear from the corner of his eye. “I know she loved you, too,” he responded, and they held each other in their grief.

The Kids Are Alright

After posting more missing flyers about Outback around town, Charlotte met up with her mom at Bobbie’s. Lulu finally told her that Valentin, through Jack Brennan, had requested a visit, but Charlotte was hesitant to see her father at a maximum security prison. Rocco arrived at the restaurant, having had no luck in finding their dog and still blaming himself for Outback running away. Lulu reminded her kids that the dog was tough, having been a stray not too long ago, and that she was proud of them for all they were doing to find the pup.

Arriving at the Quartermaine stable to see Cody, Molly was immediately smitten with the stray dog he’d found. Cody revealed that he hadn’t yet told the kids at the main house about the dog, because he wasn’t technically allowed to have pets and didn’t want to risk the Quartermaines forcing him to bring the dog to a shelter. Molly agreed to keep his secret about the dog, then apologized for blabbing about his private business — his deal with Kristina to seduce Ava — to Liz. Turning his back to hide his smile, Cody made Molly feel guilty about thinking he was “some money-grubbing himbo” before letting her off the hook for gossiping about him. Before leaving, Molly urged Cody to tell the Qs about the dog he’d taken in and to stop getting in his own way.

Step By Step

At Sonny’s house, Donna teased Gio about being her “favorite nephew” and wondered why he was so sad. After a hug from his “favorite aunt” cheered him up a bit, Gio asked Sonny to front $10,000 as reward money for Outback. Sonny agreed, no strings attached, but asked Gio to consider sticking around for a family cookout with Kristina, Michael, and Dante. Things were awkward between father and son once Dante and Kristina arrived, but Gio agreed to stay for a while.

When Sonny, Donna, and Gio went outside to fire up the grill, Kristina told Dante that he needed to loosen up and take a baby step with Gio by finding some common ground to talk about. “There’ll be time to unpack your stuff later,” she advised. Later, the group was sitting on the patio when the conversation came around to the missing Outback. Dante and Gio shared a tender moment when Dante noted that Rocco appreciated everything Gio was doing to find the dog.
