General Hospital Recap: Carly and Valentin Call it Quits, Emma Blasts Brennan Over Anna

Comments

On General Hospital on Tuesday, March 17, some pretty intense conversations took place around Port Charles. Jack (Chris McKenna) had some pointed questions for Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) after an awkward run-in with Emma (Braedyn Bruener), Stella’s (Vernee Watson) meddling led Portia (Brook Kerr) to made a big decision about Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson), Jordan (Tanisha Harper) ‘fessed up to the secret she’s been keeping from Curtis (Donnell Turner), Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) felt responsible for Diane’s (Carolyn Hennesy) career setback, Ric (Rick Hearst) stated his plans for the future to Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), and Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) attempt to smooth things over with Carly (Laura Wright) went off the rails when Sonny (Maurice Benard) got involved. Here’s how it all went down.

Reality Bites

Dropping by Portia’s office, Stella shared the news that Jordan was not actually pregnant, then warned Portia to deal with her resentment toward Jordan. A defensive Portia claimed that Jordan had kept inserting herself while she and Curtis had been trying to work through their issues, but Stella countered that Curtis and Jordan’s friendship alone wouldn’t have broken up a strong marriage. Reluctantly, Portia admitted that she and Curtis likely wouldn’t have lasted even without Jordan’s involvement, between the secrets she’d kept from him and her attempts to please him rather than talk about his unrealistic expectations. Stella counseled Portia to let go of the bitterness, not only for the sake of the baby, but also because it appeared as if her resentment toward Jordan was because she couldn’t let go of Curtis. At the end of their conversation, Portia thanked Stella for the much-needed reality check, and they hugged.

At the hospital, Isaiah mused to Elizabeth about his relationship with Portia, noting that life was too short not to let yourself be happy. Liz was struck by that, and beamed, “You just might be right.” With that, she headed off to meet Ric for their date. Later, Isaiah popped into Portia’s office. Filling him in on her conversation with Stella, Portia relayed that Jordan wasn’t pregnant, and that Stella had made her realize that her resentment toward Jordan might be making Isaiah feel as if she had unresolved feelings for Curtis. Isaiah replied that he’d never interpreted it that way. Relieved, Portia informed him that Trina and the baby were her only connection to Curtis, and the only reason she’s been able to move forward was because of him.

Confession Time

Unaware that it had even been a possibility, Curtis was shocked when Jordan came home and declared she thought she’d been pregnant. She explained that her pregnancy test had been negative, and he asked her if she’d been disappointed by the results. Jordan confided that she’d put off the test because she was scared, but it was Aunt Stella confronting her after seeing the test at the condo that made her finally decide to find out. The talk with Stella made her feel like she was still part of the family, Jordan noted, and she was glad to have Stella’s approval now that they’d found their way back to one another.

Jordan shared with Curtis that Portia also knew about the possible pregnancy and said she didn’t want that to stop him from having a good relationship with his ex since they needed to co-parent the new baby. When Curtis complimented Jordan on how generous she’s been with Portia, Jordan replied that, despite their battles, Portia was a good person and would be a great mother to his child. Appreciating how they’ve learned from their past mistakes, Jordan and Curtis agreed that they were in a better place, where they could communicate about the hard things and face them together.

Next Steps

At his house, Sonny broke the news to a stunned Diane that while she would still handle his legitimate business, he had hired Ric to take care of the more complicated deals. Explaining that his decision was about family and not a reflection of Diane’s work, Sonny noted that Ric was his last tie to his mother and had earned his trust defending Rocco while Diane was recovering from surgery.

Meanwhile, Alexis was waiting for Diane at the Port Charles Grill, where she ran into Ric. With sincerity, he thanked her for saving his life when she held him hostage in her basement, because it had given him time to reflect on what was important in his life. Ric added that working with Sonny has given him a chance to get to know the real version of his brother, but Alexis was still suspicious that Ric would double-cross Sonny. Alexis warned her ex to think of Molly when the day came that he decided to exploit his brother. Ric spat back that he had been protecting Molly from knowing Alexis, Ava, and Kristina had held him captive, and was also concealing that Kristina had nearly killed him and Elizabeth, so they were reaping the benefit of his new outlook on life, too. Alexis snarked that people do change, and she hoped Ric did, too.

Just then, Elizabeth entered, so Ric parted ways with Alexis to greet his date, and Diane arrived shortly after to meet up with Alexis. When Liz asked what he’d been talking with Alexis about, Ric replied that he and his ex-wife were going to try starting over again, as friends, which was a good thing since he’d be working closely with Sonny on multiple business deals. Liz didn’t think it was a good idea, given Ric and Sonny’s contentious past, especially since Ric was starting to get his life back together. Promising to proceed with caution, Ric explained that he was in a good place with Molly and even Alexis, but the real reason he was working with Sonny was that he needed a stable job to put down permanent roots in Port Charles — with her.

At the next table, Diane groused to Alexis about Sonny reorganizing his legal team. Alexis moaned that if Sonny had made his decision because he didn’t want her (as Diane’s partner) in close proximity to his affairs, then she was partly to blame for Diane losing work from her most lucrative client. Assuring Alexis that she wasn’t responsible, Diane stated Sonny had made it clear his decision was about supporting his brother, then joked that when it all fell apart, and Sonny came crawling back to her to fix things, she’d charge him double.

Drinking Buddies

Arriving at the Brown Dog Bar to meet up with Trina, Kai, Gio, and Emma, Josslyn flashed back to her fight with Carly and her mother’s claim that the WSB had ruined Anna’s life. Joss joined her friends, who gave her a hard time about how busy she’s been lately, and she promised to find time to see Trina’s upcoming debut at Charlie’s open mic night. Then, Josslyn stiffened when Brennan entered the bar with Cullum.

At their table, Brennan told Cullum there were no hard feelings about the director taking over the Sidwell case, and he hoped Cullum could make headway where he’d failed to do so. When Josslyn made an excuse to leave, Trina decided to walk her roommate out, but before Joss could make a clean escape, they ran into Cullum as he returned from getting drinks. Trina was surprised by her roommate’s fake chat with the stranger, and after Cullum walked off she demanded to know who the man was and how Josslyn knew him after Cullum walked off. Joss explained that she kept running into him and acted like a ditzy college student because the guy was creepy. Asking if that’s why Josslyn suddenly wanted to leave, Trina offered to have the guy kicked out, but Josslyn said that it was because Brennan reminded her of a huge fight she’d had with her mom. Knowing firsthand that distance only makes it worse, Trina suggested that her friend talk it out with Carly. Thanking Trina for the advice, Josslyn hugged her, then set out. Jack and Cullum watched the ladies’ exchange from across the bar.

Later, Jack approached Emma’s table and asked her for an update on Anna, but she bristled that it was a private family matter and none of his business. After telling her to let him know if there was anything he could do to help, Jack returned to his seat. Emma followed him and shouted that the WSB had ruined her grandmother’s life, and if he wanted to do something for Anna, he could leave her alone. After Emma returned to her friends, Cullum commented that, judging by her granddaughter’s reaction, Anna must not be making any improvement. Claiming to be hazy about what happened to Anna, Jack asked Cullum for details. The director stuck to the story that Anna went rogue while on assignment, and something about the mission had made her fixate on Faison. “I doubt if Anna will ever come back from this,” Cullum added, glancing at Emma before returning his gaze to Jack. “It’s so sad to watch a good agent break, isn’t it?”

The End of the Affair?

Carly came home to find Valentin waiting for her in the dark kitchen. He asked if them sleeping together was the start of something or an ending, and she replied that lines had gotten blurred, and she didn’t think they needed that kind of distraction. Accepting her statement, Valentin then told Carly that Jason had decided not to kill him, so he’d be able to help her take down Jack after all. “He seems to trust me with you,” Valentin noted of Jason. As they inched closer in proximity, both acknowledged that they had no regrets about spending the night together, and Valentin confided that when he’d first gotten to her house, he never expected to change his opinion of her, but was glad he had. Valentin then returned to the attic, leaving Carly flustered.

Later, Sonny stopped by to see how Carly was doing with Jason leaving town. While he was there, she told him about the awful fight she’d had with Josslyn about him, and asked Sonny to keep his distance for the time being. Sonny agreed to support Carly however she needed, and as they were speaking, Josslyn approached the back door and shook her head when she saw her mom with her former stepdad through the window. Barging into the house with an attitude, Josslyn had zero interest in Sonny’s offer to try to work things out. When Carly reprimanded her, Joss lashed out at her mom for still defending her ex. Sonny commanded Josslyn to treat Carly with respect, and she declared that she wasn’t going to lie because she didn’t respect her mother’s decisions. Then, turning on Carly, Josslyn railed against her mom for not thinking about the effects the choices she’s making right now have on her children. With that, she stormed out.
