General Hospital: Kin Shriner ‘Looking to Work Again’ After Ankle Replacement
Actor Kin Shriner, who last appeared as Scotty Baldwin on General Hospital in August 2024, is on the mend following surgery and announced on social media that he’s looking to get back to work following a lengthy recovery process.
Kin Shriner Opens Up About His Recovery
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend, Shriner shared an X-ray of his leg, showing the new artificial pieces from his ankle replacement surgery. He also included a photo of himself at home and wrote, “Ankle replacement 3 months ago. I am walking and rehabilitating. Stay tuned.” The actor added that the recovery was “not fun” and declared that he was “looking to work again!!!”
Last year, the actor spoke out about how a surgeon botched a foot surgery called a subtalar fusion, which treats severe arthritis. For six months, he said, “I basically couldn’t walk.” At the time, he credited his longtime friend and former GH co-star John Stamos (ex-Blackie Parrish) with setting him up with a different surgeon, who redid the procedure.
In the replies to his recent post, Shriner responded to some fan inquiries about his recovery, explaining that his ankle was damaged through “wear and tear” from sports like water skiing and basketball. He noted that he’d also had knee replacement surgery, and declared, “I just want to work. Rehab gets old.”
Shriner’s last appearance on GH took place two years ago, when Scott skipped town after his plan to protect the pharmacist who had tampered with Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) bipolar medication fell apart. Scott was mentioned this year in the July 30 episode when his daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger), returned to Port Charles and reported that her dad was “living his best life in Key West.”
Many fans have continued to hope that Shriner would one day bring Scott back to Port Charles, and X user @smithywitt suggested in the comment section of his post that the “best place for recuperation would be GH!! Hehehe.”
In August 2026, however, Shriner shot down a GH return as a possibility, writing on X, reply to queries about his status with the soap, “I don’t fit in there.”
Shriner’s career in soaps dates back to 1977, when he first began playing Scott Baldwin on GH. In between stints on GH, he played a host of characters on other soaps, including Jeb Hampton on the NBC sudser Texas from 1980-81, Mike Gallagher on the syndicated soap Rituals from 1984-85, Dr. Brian Carey on The Bold and the Beautiful (1994-95), Harrison Bartlett (2004) and Jeffrey Bardwell (2011) on The Young and the Restless, and Keith Morrissey on As the World Turns (2005-06). Shriner also brought the character of Scott over to the GH spinoff Port Charles from 1997-2001.
