Finn Carr made his General Hospital debut in 2022 in the role of Rocco Falconeri, son of Dante Falconeri and Lulu Spencer and the maternal grandson of one of the show’s most legendary characters, Laura Webber Collins, played by the equally legendary Genie Francis. And just as GH viewers instantly fell in love with Francis when she joined the show back in 1977, so, too, did Carr.

Learning From The Best

“We just had an instant connection when I went on set with her,” says Carr about his on-screen grandmother. “I mean, at this point, it feels like she’s almost a member of my family!”

Francis had a strong, positive influence on Carr as he found his footing at GH, and continues to be a source of support and guidance. “She’s just such a generous person,” the young actor reflects. “If I’m ever maybe having a hard or something like that, she’s always the first person to go up to me and talk to me. I have nothing but amazing things to say about her. I mean, I feel that same way about almost everyone on the show, but her especially, we just have a really special thing and I think that if we didn’t, the scenes that we had together wouldn’t be as impactful. She’s just an amazing, amazing human being.”

Carr is thrilled whenever he gets the chance to work opposite Francis and credits her with helping him to hone his own on-camera skills. “She is an amazing actor, and she has really helped me become a better dramatic actor,” he says. “I’d say that I owe a lot of my success to her. She is so seasoned, and my scenes with her, I think, are some of the ones I’m most proud of, because I feel like I definitely grow a lot as an actor every single time I’m in a scene with her. And that’s a really cool thing to be able to say and a really unique experience. I’m really so lucky to have that with her.”

The actor points to the scenes between Rocco and Laura after Sam passed away as a perfect illustration of how Francis nurtures him on set. “I was nervous for the chapel scenes after Sam’s death, which called for a lot of emotion,” he explains. “The patience that she has on set and her ease and her nuance and the way that she shows her emotions, which are so grounded, are such amazing things to be able to draw from. I feel like I’m a better actor when I’m acting with her just because of how great she is and how real she is, and I remember that day, before the scene even started, she said to me, ‘We’re gonna go slow. We’re gonna take our time and we’re gonna do justice to you, and to this character.’ That was such a powerful thing that she said to me, and it helped me so much. I was able to kind of take that sentence with me into the scenes and share such a special moment with her, and make something really special [for the audience], I think. I really do owe a lot to her. She’s so willing to share her experience and her knowledge, and I really felt like she was giving so much to me. And I was happy to take as much of it as I could!”
