Did General Hospital Just Set the Stage for Robert Scorpio’s Final Goodbye?

Comments

For more than a year, General Hospital fans have been bracing themselves for the show to address the real-life passing of soap superstar Tristan Rogers in the fictional world of Port Charles — and the October 6 episode just gave fans a major clue that GH is getting close to scripting the death of Rogers’ longtime character, Robert Scorpio.

GH Prepares to Pay Homeage to Robert Scorpio

In the episode, Robert’s sister-in-law, Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) informed his ex-wife and longtime friend, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), that Robert was planning to visit Port Charles soon with his on-again love, Holly Sutton (Emma Samms), to officially wrap up his duties as district attorney so that he and Holly could permanently settle down in France. The characters of Robert and Holly have been living an off-camera happily-ever-after together since 2024.

Rogers made his final on-screen appearance as Robert on July 18, 2025, when his daughter with Holly, Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson), moved to France with her baby girl, Daisy. The actor passed away a month later, on August 15, 2025.

The question of how General Hospital would pay homage to Rogers — and Robert Scorpio — has been hanging over the show ever since.

In September 2025, while the show was in the throes of a storyline honoring the late Leslie Charleson and her long-running character, Monica Quartermaine, GH Co-Head Writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten told TV Insider that they were “heartbroken by Tristan’s passing” and that they “aim to pay tribute to Tristan and Robert the same way that we did for Leslie and Monica.”

Then, in January 2026, Nathan Varni, who was at the time the ABC programming executive overseeing General Hospital, answered a fan who inquired on X (formerly Twitter) about GH’s plans to acknowledge Rogers’ passing. “Since the character hasn’t passed away on screen, writers are working on a story to weave into the show later in 2026 for a proper send off,” he wrote.

In recent months, the show has planted seeds that appear to be pointing to that send-off, starting with the introduction in July of Tristan Roberts, a character named after both Tristan Rogers and his legendary alter ego. Like Rogers (and Scorpio), Tristan’s portrayer, Dean Geyer, is Australian, and like Robert, Tristan has past ties to the WSB (World Security Bureau).

On the September 17 episode, the acting district attorney, Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor), revealed that Robert was stepping down as DA and that she intended to run for the office.

On the September 28 episode, Anna told Tristan that he reminded her of someone who now lives far away, a fairly obvious reference to Robert, and the conversation kicked up speculation that Tristan might be Robert’s secret son — possibly even with Anna.

Now, with the news that Robert is soon to make his way to Port Charles, it appears that GH is preparing to reveal that the beloved character never makes it home.

“I think Robert is gonna pass away before the visit and Anna will have to face one of her demons by returning to France for his funeral,” GH fan Ethan predicted on X.

Another viewer, Katie, was like-minded about what the episode’s Robert mention foreshadowed. “Anna will be destroyed by Robert death,” she wrote on X.  “I’m not ready.”
