Days of Our Lives: Wes Ramsey Teases His Return as Owen Kent — ‘How Far Can We Go?’
The storyline of Stephanie’s (Abigail Klein) stalker on Days of Our Lives takes a turn on Friday, February 27, when Wes Ramsey returns to the soap as Owen Kent. The actor opened up to TV Insider about stepping back into the shoes of a character he previously portrayed back in 2009. “Being asked to reprise a role that I played 16 years ago is something I’ve never done before,” he shared. “That’s the kind of thing that can happen in daytime, and it was absolutely a wonderful experience.”
Here Comes Trouble… Again
Earlier this year, Ramsey also made a surprise return to General Hospital when he stepped back into the role of Peter August — or an apparition of him, anyway — to torment Anna (Finola Hughes) in the January 23 episode. “It’s a great gift to be called back to do something you once did before,” he mused, “because it means somewhere along the way, someone making creative decisions liked what you were doing enough to want to bring you back. It’s a compliment and something I don’t take for granted.”
Of course, revisiting the character of Owen so many years after he first exited the Salem scene created its own set of challenges for the actor, who wondered how Owen would be brought back into the storyline mix. Ramsey reported that after reading his script, he was was eager to dive in. “Then it just became a question of how far can we go?” he enthused. “How much fun can we have? How much is too much?” After all, he hinted, “Owen is a man who desperately wants to love and be loved and is lonely.”
Back in 2009, when Owen abducted Stephanie — falling madly in love with her in the process — his victim was played by Shelly Hennig. But Ramsey fell right into step with the actress who now portrays her. “Abigail and I got along really well, and she’s wonderful, a real pro,” he said of Klein. “We really let ourselves go there and had a ball. Robert Scott Wilson [Alex] and I got to work together, too, and he’s a great guy and a wonderful actor. He and I really got to step up to the plate together and had so much fun.”
Having enjoyed playing the villain again, Ramsey shared that he would love it if this visit wasn’t the end for Owen, musing, “I do hope there’s room for some of this to perhaps be revisited somewhere down the road.”
