DAYS Exclusive: Linsey Godfrey Says L.A.’s Fire Response Is ‘Humanity at Its Finest’

Like all Los Angelenos, Linsey Godfrey (Sarah, Days of our Lives) has been coping with the devastation caused by the California fires.
Incredible Heartbreak
“I’m just so heartbroken for everyone,” says the actress. “There are so many people who lost everything, especially in places like Altadena where [residents are] not these huge celebrities…. There are places in the Palisades where people bought their homes 40 years ago and everything got built up around them. I know Sal Stowers [ex-Lani] lost a family home; I think it was her aunt’s. Emily O’Brien [Gwen] has a friend who lost everything. My child has a friend whose aunt lost everything. It is just so heartbreaking.
Godfrey has been among the fortunate whose home is still standing. “We are so beyond lucky to be in the situation that we are,” she notes. “But the whole thing is absolutely gutting. We’re definitely going through all of our stuff, going through all of our clothes and everything to donate stuff. We’re also looking for opportunities to volunteer and do things like that.”
Godfrey has quickly learned that she is not alone in her desire to reach out and help others. “What’s kind of phenomenal is that there is this outpouring of volunteers and donations,” explains Godfrey. “Some centers are like, ‘We don’t need any more donations,’ and, ‘We don’t need any more people.’ That’s something that I truly love about L.A. It’s a city of people who don’t speak to their neighbors until there’s an emergency. Then you have people doing amazing things for each other. It’s phenomenal. It is such a unique quality of this city, and I truly love that about it.”
The actress was particularly moved by a TikToker in the Los Angeles area who is volunteering her services by “telling people to send her their addresses, and she’s going and checking on their homes for them. She’s [then] letting them know the status of their homes. There’s something so beautiful about that. And there are people who don’t have much who are donating money or time or just whatever it is. It shows humanity at its finest.”
Godfrey is trying to remain hopeful that the firestorm will eventually come to an end and the people affected by the tragedy will recover. “I hope so… But this is forever for some people,” says Godfrey, acknowledging that the devastation will never be over for those who don’t have the financial means to rebuild. “That’s what I’m saying. For some people [their homes were] their everything. They don’t have the savings. These people put their savings into buying their home in the thought of like, ‘This will be equity later on. I’m going to keep working and I can rebuild my nest egg.’ Except now you have nothing. It just kills me.”
