Captive Audience
The Prisoner: Michael Scott
The Captor: Victor Newman
Year: 1980
Locked Up: After finding out that wife Julia was going to leave town with photographer Michael Scott, Victor had a bomb shelter (equipped with video cameras and monitors) constructed in the basement of his ranch house. Newman then lured the clueless shutterbug to the secret room and sealed him in. For days, the jealous mogul taunted his helpless prey — until Julia turned on the monitor and discovered that Michael was a prisoner in her own home.
Key To Freedom: Julia helped her lover escape, but Victor suddenly returned and the men brawled. Julia was critically injured during the fight, and at the hospital, Victor made a promise to God that if his wife survived, he would set her free from their marriage. Julia fully recovered and left Genoa City with Michael.
The Prisoner: Brad Carlton
The Captor: Lisa Mansfield
Year: 1988
Locked Up: Brad never mentioned to his wife Traci that he had been married to the daughter of his previous employer, who had the union annulled. But Lisa was still obsessed with Brad and was determined to have him all to herself. To that end, she arranged to have Brad kidnapped and deposited in the cage that she had erected inside a house in the mountains. Traci was tricked into believing that her husband had deserted her, while loopy Lisa went about caring for her hostage. Brad realized the only way to escape was to play along with his ex’s demented plan.
Key To Freedom: Lauren followed Lisa back to the house, but ended up becoming Brad’s cellmate. Lisa turned on the gas and left them to die. Luckily, Jack arrived in time to save them. Lisa got away and hasn’t been heard from since.
The Prisoner: Katherine Chancellor
The Captor: Clint Radison
Year: 1989
Locked Up: Con artist Clint schemed to replace Katherine with her doppelgänger, Marge. Esther the maid walked in as the kidnapping was taking place and got abducted, too. The women were held prisoner in a remote cabin by Clint’s cohorts, Morey and Lil. Marge then followed Clint’s orders by liquidating Katherine’s vast assets as well as bedding her sexy husband, Rex.
Key To Freedom: A guilt-ridden Marge visited Kay, then secretly changed clothes with her so La Chancellor could slip out. When Clint showed up to kill Katherine (really Marge), Lil had a change of heart and knocked her boss unconscious. Clint went to jail, but Katherine, grateful for how she was freed, allowed Marge, Lil and Morey to flee.
The Prisoner: Alex “Blade” Bladeson
The Captor: Rick Bladeson
Year: 1994
Locked Up: Blade and his wife Ashley went on a Caribbean getaway to work on their troubled marriage. Coincidentally, her brother Jack was there on a fun respite with Mari Jo, who shared a romantic past with Blade. In St. Thomas, Ashley was understandably upset when she saw Mari Jo and her husband in a cozy situation. Oops, that was really his evil twin brother, Rick, who Blade thought was dead. Rick knocked out his brother, then chained him up, where he was watched over by a menacing dude with dreadlocks. Rick then assumed Blade’s identity and returned with Ashley to Genoa City, where she was thrilled with her husband’s sudden and remarkably improved performance in the bedroom.
Key To Freedom: Blade got the upper hand, escaped and returned home. However, he didn’t reveal his brother’s charade because he didn’t have the heart to tell Ashley that she’d been so easily duped (plus, she was giving their marriage a second chance). Blade allowed his brother to leave town.
The Prisoner: Christine Blair
The Captor: Mari Jo Mason
Year: 1996
Locked Up: In Victor’s office, he was shot by Mari Jo because he possessed an incriminating fax that detailed her nefarious past. Victor didn’t see his assailant, but suspected Mari Jo since the fax ended up missing. As Victor recuperated, Mari Jo learned that he had given the imaging roll from the fax machine to Christine, which meant proof against Ms. Mason still existed. Desperate to retrieve the roll, Mari Jo snatched Christine and kept her tied up in a little-used (and soundproof) storeroom at Jabot.
Key To Freedom: Paul became suspicious of Mari Jo and planted a homing device on her, which led him to Chris. Mari Jo went bonkers and was committed to a mental institution.
