General Hospital Alum Chris McKenna To Undergo Emergency Surgery
General Hospital alum Chris McKenna (ex-Jack) announced on October 5 that he would be undergoing emergency surgery to remove a cyst that has “eaten away my jawbone.”

The actor shared a photo of an X-ray of his mouth on X (formerly Twitter) and explained how the dentist discovered the problem. “I had a broken crown fixed last month and they discovered a spot on my x-ray,” McKenna wrote. “Turns out I need emergency surgery in the morning to remove a cyst that has eaten away my jawbone and have a bone graft.”
The former GH star considers himself fortunate that his dentist uncovered the problem. “Good thing I broke that tooth!” he declared. “This is gonna hurt but lucky we caught it. ❤️”
In a subsequent post, McKenna found another bright spot to cling to, winking, “The good news is I’m gonna be on pain meds for weeks and my tweets might be hilarious.”
In response to McKenna’s post, a fan advised him to have all of his impacted wisdom teeth removed, noting that they can cause cysts and become cancerous, to which the actor replied, “My surgeon recommended to not do that because of the way they are positioned in my jaw unless they start causing me problems.”
McKenna’s unexpected surgery comes on the heels of his equally unexpected departure from General Hospital, where he had played the role of Jack Brennan since February 2025. While his character had begun to spark romantically with Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and was a key player in several ongoing storylines, the show decided to kill off Jack in dramatic fashion in September, when he was found floating dead in the Metro Court swimming pool.
McKenna approached his firing with the same positive attitude he is bringing to his dental emergency, telling TV Insider, “I’m really grateful. It’s disappointing how it’s ending right now, but this was a gift.”
