The Soap Opera Digest Awards
1989Oh, what a night the Fifth Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards turned out to be. The two-hour show, which aired on January 16 on NBC, was emceed by ONE LIFE TO LIVE's John Loprieno and Andrea Evans (Cord and Tina). The highlight of the evening was GENERAL HOSPITAL star Sharon Wyatt (Tiffany) running to the stage to collect the Outstanding Female Comic Performance award when that night's winner -- and Wyatt's pal -- Robin Mattson (Gina, SANTA BARBARA) was a no-show. Wyatt cracked that she wanted to show off her dress.
YOUNG AND RESTLESS veteran Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) took home the trophy for Outstanding Daytime Actress, as well as an Editor's Award. Her family, including son Corbin Bernsen (ex-Ken, RYAN'S HOPE), was on hand to show their support. Once again, DAYS OF OUR LIVES and KNOTS LANDING triumphed in the Outstanding Show categories...
