The Soap Opera Digest Awards
1984The First Annual Soap Opera Digest Awards, co-hosted by Catherine Hickland (ex-Julie, CAPITOL) and David Hasselhoff (ex-Snapper, YOUNG AND RESTLESS), aired in a glittering special featuring presenters from both daytime and prime-time televison. GENERAL HOSPITAL, a past award-sweeper at the Soapys, was overwhelmingly toppled by DAYS OF OUR LIVES, which came in first in every daytime category except two. (Back then, runners-up were also announced.)
For the first time, prime-time soaps were included. Despite the fact that DALLAS and DYNASTY were winners in most of the nighttime categories, KNOTS LANDING, which didn't get as much publicity as the others, fared quite well with readers...
