Dana Delany joined AS THE WORLD TURNS as Hayley.... Dee took John to court for marital rape, and Margo learned that John is her biological father.... Kim became Mrs. Nick Andropoulos.... The show celebrated its 25th anniversary on April 2. Behind the scenes, Bridget and Jerome Dobson resigned as head writers, and four different combinations of writers were put in place before the year was out. Oakdale also got a new executive producer, Mary-Ellis Bunim (who would later co-create THE REAL WORLD for MTV), who succeeded Fred Bartholomew.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES snapped up Thaao Penghlis (who had just done a stint as GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Victor Cassadine) to play Tony DiMera, Wayne Northrop started his Roman run, James Reynolds (pictured) signed on as Abe, and Lane Davies (later SANTA BARBARA’s Mason) began playing Evan.... Fresh from the head-writing gig at GH, Pat Falken Smith returned to the job of top scribe, taking over for Michelle Poteet-Lisanti and Gary Tomlin.... Doug and Julie remarried; Marlena was raped by Kellam, who was then killed by his son, Tod; The Salem Strangler (Jake Kositchek) began his reign of terror, so cop Roman camped out on target Marlena’s floor for her protection, kicking off their romance; pregnant via artificial insemination (Evan was the sperm donor), Maggie gave birth to a daughter, Sarah; Marie and Alex’s flame was rekindled when they were trapped together after a plane crash, and she revealed that his newly adopted daughter, Jessica, was actually his bio kid.
THE DOCTORS aired its 5,000th episode in November.... Elizabeth Hubbard returned as Althea, while future 90210 star Ian Ziering debuted as Erich.... Maggie concealed her pregnancy from estranged hubby Matt.

GENERAL HOSPITAL viewers embraced newbies Tristan Rogers (Scorpio, now also Y&R’s Colin), Sharon Wyatt (Tiffany) and Rick Springfield (Noah), while Kin Shriner made a surprise return as Scott; Elizabeth Taylor guest-starred as Helena Cassadine No. 1; and Richard Dean Anderson hung up his scrubs as Jeff.... Dustin Hoffman visited the set to prepare for his role in Tootsie.... A cool 30 million viewers tuned in to watch the grand nuptials of Luke and Laura after the duo (with help from Robert) stopped the Cassadine clan from freezing the world with a
weather-controlling machine, the formula to which was stashed in the base of the Ice Princess (the world’s largest uncut diamond); Helena put a curse on the Spencers and a returning, embittered Scotty caught the bouquet.... Alan’s mistress, Susan, gave birth to his son, Jason; Jeff learned that he is the bio dad of Steven Lars Webber, and Steven’s bio mom, Heather, tried to frame Anne for Diana’s murder by writing Ms. Logan’s name in the blood of the deceased — but the true culprit was revealed to be Heather’s mother, Alice.... Bobbie faked blindness to scheme her way into Noah’s heart.... Creative differences with EP Gloria Monty prompted Head Writer Pat Falken Smith to quit; Robert J. Shaw and Monty assumed the responsibility for the writing team....At the DaytimeEmmys, GH won Outstanding Drama and Jane Elliot (ex-Tracy) took home the prize for Supporting Actress.... Time described GH as “useless to resist. It is everywhere.”

Paul Rauch exited and Gail Kobe followed him as EP; on the head-writing front, Dorothy Ann Purser and Samuel Ratcliffe, then Paul Rader and Gerald Flesher, succeeded Joyce and John William Corrington.
