In 2003, Abe Carver (James Reynolds, pictured with Drake Hogestyn as John Black, l., and Peter Reckell as Bo Brady) “died” at the hands of the Salem Stalker on Days of Our Lives. While Abe, the serial killer's first victim, was ultimately revived and Reynolds returned to the show, the actor told Soap Opera Digest in 2015, "That was a trying time, I have to admit, because I had considered DAYS my home. I think everyone on that list were people who felt very much the way I did, so to find out we were on the hit list was tough. But coming back was a great joy. This sounds a little egotistical but there were some iconic characters amongst that list, and having everybody come back at the same time was a very uplifting moment, I think, for everyone on the show."

In 2004, Roger Thorpe’s ex-wife, Holly Lindsey, and daughter, Blake Marler, reeled from the news of his death on Guiding Light. Holly was far from convinced that the person who informed them of Roger's passing — Sebastian Hulce, who had identified himself as Roger's son — was telling the truth, either about Roger's fate or his own identity, and she covertly took a strand of his hair, intending to have his DNA tested. The iconic character of Roger had been made famous by Daytime Emmy Award-winning actor Michael Zaslow, who played him from 1971-80, and again from 1989-97. Zaslow was diagnosed with ALS and passed away in 1998. Dennis Parlato assumed the role from 1997-98.

In 2009, One Life To Live's Téa Delgado (Florencia Lozano) and Todd Manning (Trevor St. John) completed their wedding ceremony, much to the chagrin of Todd's ex-wife, Blair, who had been blocked from stopping the wedding by Ross Rayburn. The nuptials took place at the country club, after which the newlyweds retired to a cabana to start their honeymoon. This was the third time Téa and Todd tied the knot, or so it seemed at the time — "Todd" ultimately turned out to be a brainwashed Victor Lord, Jr.
