Five Things That Happened On November 14 In Soap History

In 1994, One Life To Live's Asa Buchanan (Phil Carey) wed Alex Olanov (Tonja Walker) in an Egyptian-themed wedding shot on location at Central Park. Decked out as Cleopatra in full Egyptian garb, Alex made her grand entrance on a barge decked out in jewels, which was paddled by hunky male attendants wearing loincloths. Things went awry when Alex was kidnapped by Buck Miller and Bugle Hackmann, her former henchmen, who wanted to extract a handsome ransom from loaded Asa. (Did we mention they were dressed as nuns when they nabbed her?) Asa tasked his sons, Clint and Bo, and his grandson, Cord, with rescuing the bride, which they did on horseback. The ceremony was then conducted in the grand ballroom of the fictional Royal Plaza Hotel, with Alex walking down the aisle to the music of Aida.

In 1995, Blair Cramer (Kassie DePaiva) and Todd Manning's “gold balloon wedding” took place on One Life To Live. The duo had previously been briefly married when Blair, who had caught on to the fact that Todd was the heir to Victor Lord's fortune, tricked Todd into marrying her by claiming to be pregnant. By the time Todd discovered her machinations, the duo had fallen genuinely in love, and though Todd angrily ended the marriage over her deception, the pair found their way back to one another. The night that Todd proposed, Blair accepted — and also made a confession: She was pregnant (with their daughter, Starr). They tied the knot at St. James Church with select family members in attendance, and Rev. Andrew Carpenter (Blair's cousin Cassie's husband) performing the ceremony. Todd then surprised Blair with a lavish reception for just the two of them, where he showered her with a cascade of gold balloons and proposed a toast to "my wife — past, present and future."

In 2007, Emily Bowen-Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston) was murdered on General Hospital. Emily had been growing increasingly concerned about the bouts of rage and blackouts Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher) was experiencing, and implored him to get medical tests done. Nik insisted on throwing a big gala at Wyndemere in honor of their love, as the pair had recently reunited. He called the event the Black and White Ball and there, in front of their dressed-up family and friends, he proposed to Emily, who happily accepted. But the party was crashed by deranged mafioso Anthony Zacchara, who began terrorizing the guests. Opposite this, the Text Message Killer — Diego Alcazar — strangled Emily to death, devastating Nikolas as well as her best friend, Elizabeth, and her family, including adoptive mother Monica and adoptive brother Jason.

In 2014 on Young and Restless, Adam Newman's (Justin Hartley) bandages were removed following his facial reconstruction surgery. Presumed dead back in Genoa City at the time, Adam had undergone plastic surgery in order to look like Gabriel Bingham, whose identity he assumed in order to infiltrate those in Adam's circle incognito. Adam marveled at the results when he saw himself in the mirror for the first time and saw Gabriel's face staring back at him. "Now I can reclaim my life," he told his reflection.

In 2017, Wes Ramsey made his General Hospital debut as Peter August. Ramsey had previously appeared on Guiding Light as Sam Spencer and Owen Kent on Days of Our Lives. The controversial character of Peter, also known as Henrik Faison, was created as the heretofore unknown son of Anna Devane and Cesar Faison. He told Soap Opera Digest in 2017 that his casting had been set in motion by running into Executive Producer Frank Valentini — for whom he had once auditioned for a role on One Life To Live, when Valentini was its show runner — in the GH parking lot when he dropped girlfriend Laura Wright (Carly) off one day. "It was really sort of a wonderful coincidence when we crossed paths and got to catch up and talk, and I guess a seed was planted in the back of our minds, thinking, ‘Maybe we can have another crack at working together, if the right thing comes along at the right time.’ And sure enough, three or four months later, there was an opportunity to come in and audition.”
