In 1952, Guiding Light made its television debut on CBS. Created by Irna Phillips, the soap had already been broadcasting on radio since January 25, 1937, and continued to air on both mediums for four years. At the time, GL's episodes were only 15 minutes long. On TV, it took over the time slot previously held by the daytime drama The First Hundred Years, which had premiered in 1950.

It’s got to be another one of his crazy games." "Well, nothing he does surprises me," Sharon conceded. She then pointed out to Nick that the documents were dated the previous year. "Which means he put all this in motion just in case his plan failed or he died," Nick noted. "It’s an amazing way to keep toying with you from beyond the grave."
