In 1988, Darnell Williams, pictured with Debbi Morgan as Angie Hubbard and Z. Wright as Frankie Hubbard, exited All My Children as Jesse Hubbard, who appeared to have died from a gunshot wound. He began playing the Daytime Emmy-winning role of Jesse in 1981, and returned to the show in 1993, 2001 and 2002 as a ghost, then in 2008 as a miraculously back-from-the-dead Jesse.

In 1996, Stephen Nichols (r., with Tyler Christopher as Nikolas Cassadine) made his General Hospital debut as Stefan Cassadine. The actor, who has since reprised the role of Steve Johnson on Days of Our Lives, remained with the show until 2002, then returned in 2023. Stefan's introduction into the Port Charles landscape shook Luke and Laura's relationship to its core, as his sexual past with Laura (off-screen, while Laura was being held captive on Cassadine Island) was revealed.
