In 1999, General Hospital's Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans) was revealed to be alive (she had been presumed dead after falling from the parapet at Wyndemere). Stefan had been tried for her death before it came out that Katherine had actually survived, and been kept alive courtesy of Helena. Later that same year, however, Katherine would once again plunge from the parapet, and this time, the fall was fatal.

In 2009, Lindsay Hartley (r., with Camila Banus as Gabi and Galen Gering as Rafe) made her Days of Our Lives debut as Arianna Hernandez, sister of Gabi and Rafe. The role had briefly been played by Felisha Terrell before Hartley was cast. The actress had previously been a star on Passions, where she appeared as Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald from 1999-2007. On that series, Gering also played her brother (Luiz Lopez-Fitzgerald). Hartley exited the show in 2010, and told Soap Operea Weekly, "I was in a storyline meeting and was told that they could go two different ways with my character, and that they would let me know after the Emmys. The week after the Emmys, I went in to [get] the update on which direction they were going with my character, and I was told that they were going to kill her."

In 2015, Aiden Jennings (Daniel Cosgrove) proposed to Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso) on Days of Our Lives. As the duo reminisced about their disastrous first date over a candlelit dinner, Aiden told Hope, "Every day, I've fallen more and more in love with you. Hope, I never want that to end." He then brandished a diamond ring and popped the question.
