The Young & the Restless: Malcolm Needs Lily to Save His Life — Stephanie Revealed as Holden’s Mom
The April 7 episode of Young and Restless brought the return of Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) after his last visit in May 2023 and Stephanie Simmons (Vivica A. Fox) after over three decades away from Genoa City. The two characters are back for a dramatic new storyline, and here’s how it all kicked off.
Family Ties
When Nate (Sean Dominic) and Devon (Bryton James) ran into Lily (Christel Khalil) at the Genoa City Athletic Club, things were still tense because of her involvement in faking her own kidnapping with Victor (Eric Braeden). She wanted to explain and clear the air, but had a meeting she couldn’t postpone. Just then, Malcolm walked in and greeted everyone, enveloping Lily in a warm embrace.
Malcolm explained that he’d just popped into town for a little family time, and Devon bitterly wondered if Lily had mentioned the kidnapping. Lily deflected and quickly agreed when Malcolm asked if they could speak privately. They went down into the Jazz Lounge and, after taking a moment to look at Neil’s portrait, Malcolm declared that seeing his brother’s picture had given him the courage to say what he had to say. Lily was nervous, but Malcolm told her not to be scared and revealed that he had aplastic anemia. “Lily, that’s the reason I’m here,” he shared. “I need you… to save my life.”

Lily was shaken, but Malcolm assured her that he had good doctors and just needed a bone marrow transplant. Having gone through her own experience with cancer, Lily was happy to get tested and help her biological father. Malcolm reminded her that her mother, Dru, saved Olivia’s life years ago when she was diagnosed with the same thing. Lily recalled the donation but didn’t realize it was the same disease. “Okay, well then, you have two examples of hope, okay?” she declared. “I am a living example that cures exist, and you’re gonna beat this, okay? I know that Dad will make sure of it.” They then turned to take in Neil’s portrait once more.
Lily was eager to get started and asked how it would work. Malcolm explained the details of receiving radiation and chemotherapy, adding that while he could go into full remission if the transplant was successful, there were no guarantees. Lily glanced at Neil’s picture and teared up. She explained that when Neil passed away, it was so sudden that she couldn’t prepare for it, and she hated that she couldn’t do anything to save him. But she was grateful to Malcolm for giving her this chance to help save him.
Upstairs, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) interrupted Nate and Devon arguing with Cane (Billy Flynn), and then Malcolm returned with Lily. Phyllis was thrilled to see her old friend again. As they caught up, Devon asked a distant Lily if she was okay, and she said she’d explain later. Cane said hello, and Malcolm warned him to stay away from his family. Cane stormed off, and Phyllis urged Malcolm to come by her new office and see what she’d accomplished.

After Phyllis left, Devon thanked Malcolm for what he’d said to Cane as Lily remained visibly uncomfortable. Malcolm asked about Dominic, and Devon voiced his appreciation for Malcolm reaching out when the boy was abducted. When Nate wondered how long he’d be in town for, Malcolm admitted, “That depends.” He then looked at his phone with a grim expression and excused himself to go meet up with someone. After he left, Devon asked Lily what was going on, but she wouldn’t say, instead insisting that everything was fine.
Mama Knows Best
Holden (Nathan Owens) and Audra (Zuleyka Silver) were bickering at Crimson Lights when Stephanie — Holden’s mother! — suddenly interrupted. “And who the hell do you think you are, threatening my son?” she asked haughtily. Holden was thrilled to see his mom and introduced her to Audra, promising Stephanie that he and Audra were simply bantering. Stephanie was curious about just how close Audra was to her son and was pleased to learn that they were just friends. Audra introduced herself officially and extended her hand, but Stephanie just looked at it with disdain.
Eventually, after both Audra and Holden assured Stephanie that everything between them was just fine, she finally shook Audra’s hand. Stephanie confirmed what Audra had heard, that she was a doctor with a thriving practice in Manhattan. Holden noted that he usually had to go visit his mom in New York, so he wondered what brought her to Genoa City. Stephanie pointedly asked “Audrey” if she could talk to her son alone, and Audra stepped out. “I don’t like that girl,” Stephanie declared after she’d gone.

Holden pressed Stephanie again about what had taken her to Genoa City. Stephanie sat down with him at the table, taking a moment to gather her thoughts. Finally, she said, “I need to tell you something very important. Something that may — no, that will — change your world. It’s time that you learn the truth about your father.”
