The Young and The Restless: Melissa Ordway Goes Amish for a New Role She’ll ‘Never Forget’

Comments

Fans of Young and Restless star Melissa Ordway (Abby) can see a whole new side of the actress in her guest-starring role as Lacey on Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries. She appeared in the fourth episode of season one, titled “Off the Beaten Path,” which originally aired on May 14 on UPtv, but it can be watched at any time on the UP Faith & Family streaming service.

A Different World

“Almost a year ago, we went to Sugarcreek, Ohio, to film a show and left with so much more than I ever expected,” Ordway shared on Instagram alongside a photo carousel of images documenting the experience. “Sweet friendships, a little glimpse into the Amish community, memories I’ll never forget, and somehow… a new puppy.”

Based on the book series by Nancy Mehl, Sugarcreek Amish Mysteries follows a woman named Cheryl Cooper (played by Galadriel Stineman) who moves to an Amish community to manage a gift shop after her engagement falls apart. There, she is drawn into various mysteries, and being an outsider in the community actually works to her advantage in helping to solve them.

In her episode, Ordway plays Lacy Landers, an up-and-coming actress who is visiting Sugarcreek. “She unexpectedly becomes wrapped up in a mystery unfolding in town,” the Y&R star previewed on Instagram. “While working alongside Cheryl, Lacey develops a meaningful connection with the community. Episode four has humor, it has heart, it has mystery, and it may or may not even have a little bit of romance.”

For Ordway, the guest-starring gig was a family affair, as her real-life husband, Justin Gaston (ex-Chance, Y&R; ex-Ben, Days of Our Lives), is playing the role of Michael Neal in the same episode. In her Instagram carousel, Ordway also shared a photo of her 10-year-old daughter, Olivia, dressed as an Amish child standing with some extras, so viewers should keep an eye out for her, as well.

“What started as a job turned into such a special experience,” Ordway enthused, “and I’m so excited that you finally get to see it!”
