The Young and the Restless: How Did Devon End Nate’s Medical Career?

Comments

Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) has decided to return to medicine on The Young and Restless after an injury derailed his career as a doctor years ago. That injury was caused by his cousin, Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), in a fit of rage. Here’s how it all went down.

Why Did Devon Attack Nate on Y&R?

Back in the fall of 2020, Devon was in a serious relationship with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy), while Nate had recently begun casually dating Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan). However, Elena had grown jealous of the growing attention that Devon had been paying Amanda ever since learning she was the long-lost twin of his late ex-wife, Hilary Curtis (also Mishael Morgan).

Elena’s fears that Devon would leave her for Amanda continued to build, and on October 5, 2020, she impulsively had sex with Nate in an exam room at the free clinic where they both worked. Elena immediately regretted her actions, and she and Nate agreed it would never happen again. They also made a pact not to tell anyone about their bout of passion.

But the guilt weighed on Elena, and on October 20, 2020, she could take no more. When they returned to their hotel room following a gala where Devon received the Businessperson of the Year Award, she broke down and confessed to Devon that she’d cheated on him with his cousin. Furious, Devon stormed down to the lobby and punched Nate in the jaw.

The force of the blow knocked Nate down, and in the process, he smashed his hand into glass, lacerating a tendon in his hand. The injury was so severe that it left him unable to perform surgery, bringing his medical career to an abrupt halt.

Nate wound up changing careers to work alongside his family at Chancellor-Winters, but helping Dr. Stephanie Simmons (Vivica A. Fox) arrange a life-saving surgery for Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) rekindled his love of medicine. She urged him to pursue it, and Nate has now decided to become a doctor again.
