The Six Most Outrageous Ways Victor Newman Meddled in His Family’s Love Lives on Y&R
It honestly shouldn’t have come as a surprise to Claire (Hayley Erin) when Victor (Eric Braeden) plotted to destroy her relationship with Kyle (Michael Mealor) on Young and Restless. The man has always believed that he knows what’s best for his children and grandchildren, including their choice of romantic partners. So when Victor doesn’t approve of someone’s love life, he will often go to extreme lengths to set things right — well, his version of right — whether they like it or not!
Tried to Bribe Ryan Into Leaving Victoria
When a 16-year-old Victoria (then-Heather Tom) developed a crush on the older Ryan (Scott Reeves), and Victor immediately believed that the young Newman exec was taking advantage of his little girl. In 1992, The Mustache tried to steer her toward someone he considered a more age-appropriate suitor, Brandon (Paul Walker) and offered Ryan $10,000 to stay away from Victoria. While pretending he would keep his distance from the young heiress, Ryan secretly eloped with her instead! When Nikki caught Vicky in bed with Ryan, Victor retaliated swiftly, first having Ryan arrested for statutory rape. Victoria secured money to bail him out, after which Victor upped his financial ante and gave Ryan a blank check to sever his ties to her forever. Ryan started to make it out for the hefty price of $1 million, then tore it up and told Victor they wouldn’t be making such a deal.

Had Victoria Arrested on Her Wedding Day
In 2010, Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Billy (then-Billy Miller) were deliriously happy after moving into their new home together and discovering that they were going to have a baby. They’d planned to go to Vegas and tie the knot, but Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) arranged for the judge to waive the waiting period so that they could be married at their house with everyone around to celebrate. One person who definitely wasn’t celebrating was Victor, who was determined to protect his daughter from the lifetime of heartache that “Billy Boy Abbott” would bring her. Not only did he refuse to attend the ceremony, but he placed a call to turn Victoria in to the authorities! So while the bride and groom were exchanging vows, a pair of government agents interrupted to place Victoria under arrest for bribing a Japanese official. However, before the couple were torn apart by the cops, the judge managed to declare them husband and wife, so Victor’s efforts were for naught.

Got Billy Released From Prison in Exchange for Never Seeing Victoria Again
When Billy was rotting in a jail cell in Myanmar in 2011, Victor went to Southeast Asia to offer him his freedom if he promised never to see Victoria again. Billy refused, but Victor told him that his daughter, Delia, had been diagnosed with leukemia and he could save her life if he were a bone marrow match. Billy reluctantly agreed to return to Genoa City and hide out, with Kevin (Greg Rikaart) pretending to be the miracle donor in his place. Eventually, once Delia was expected to make a full recovery, Victor again forced Billy to leave town. But the Abbott only got as far as a stopover in New York City on his way to India, where he ran into Victoria in the airport, and they were reunited.
Hired Chelsea to Come Between Billy and Victoria
As 2012 began, Billy and Victoria’s happiness was shattered when Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) arrived on their doorstep, claiming that he had forced himself on her in Myanmar and that she was pregnant (with Johnny) as a result. A DNA test proved Billy was the baby daddy, though the ugly truth was eventually revealed: Chelsea had been paid to drug Billy and take compromising photos with him, and ultimately slept with him when he was unable to give consent. And her mission had been funded by Victor, in a brazen and underhanded effort to thwart Billy and Victoria’s union. Victor had then brought Chelsea and her mother, Anita (Catherine Bach), to town to make sure the wedge between his daughter and son-in-law was as wide as possible. When Chelsea confessed this to Adam, he promptly told Victoria, who was understandably outraged. She denounced her father, and when Nikki found out, she walked out on The Mustache.

Hired a Cassie Look-Alike to Gaslight Sharon
After Sharon (Sharon Case) was diagnosed with bipolar, she stopped taking her medication and began hallucinating her late daughter, Cassie (Camryn Grimes). After resuming her pills in 2014, Sharon was upset to continue seeing visions of the young woman all over town and was stunned when she was able to physically touch the “ghost” that was haunting her. Eventually, the truth was revealed that Victor had hired Mariah Copeland, a striking look-alike, to gaslight Sharon so that his son, Nick, would not want to reunite with her. (Much later, it was discovered that the reason for the resemblance was because Mariah and Cassie were actually Sharon’s twins, separated at birth.)

Offered to Help Find Marisa’s Child — If Noah Dumped Her
When Noah (Robert Adamson) got involved with Marisa (Sofia Pernas) in 2015, Victor made his disapproval known, but the relationship continued despite his protests. When Noah offered to help Marisa locate her long-lost daughter, he turned to his powerful grandfather for help. But Victor only agreed to help track the child down if Noah agreed to break up with Marisa. Naturally, Noah refused.
