The Best And Worst On B&B, DAYS, GH And Y&R The Week Of Nov. 11-15

Robert (Tristan Rogers, l.) and Holly’s (Emma Samms) GH exit and Ian Ward’s (Ray Wise) Y&R comeback were among our favorite soap moments last week.
The Best
Young and Restless: Abby And Devon’s Wedding
How do you celebrate the 13,000th episode of the number one soap opera? With as many OG returns, firings and car crashes as you can fit into one wedding ceremony. Ashley, Harmony and Ana came back for the big day, as did Jill, who donned her finest sequin dress to break the news that she had sold Chancellor to Victor. “I will be stripping you of your duties,” she told Billy. “It’s over, son.” Billy vowed revenge on Victor while Lily was like Huh?
That was all set against the back drop of the beautifully rebuilt Newman ranch, where the least dramatic moment was the vows. At the reception, Victor ordered Diane to oust Kyle if she wants Glissade and she did it — making Kyle the second Abbott scion fired at this event. The camera then zoomed in on Diane and Jack huddled together, which confirmed fans’ suspicions that their breakup had been staged.
Rounding out the action was a car crash that left Phyllis injured (and Sharon looking guilty), while across town, a manicured hand opened a hotel room door. Jordan’s out of prison — and she’s teamed up with Ian Ward!
General Hospital: Robert And Holly Reunite
They first got together in the 1980s when Robert married a pregnant Holly to give the missing Luke’s baby a father (and Holly a green card). Their love affair was stymied by Luke’s return, the appearance of his first wife (Anna!) and their “deaths” — Holly in a plane crash and Robert in a boat explosion. But their attraction held fast through kidnappings, neurotoxin outbreaks and stolen jewel capers, leading up to Robert finding out in October that Holly had secretly given birth to his daughter and her name was Sasha Gilmore.
The reveal of Robert’s newfound family put the immediate kibosh on his relationship with Diane. “I want someone to look at me the way you look at her,” Diane told Robert in her preemptive breakup speech. That freed Robert up to pursue Holly again but, true to form, she was in trouble and had to leave town. Holly asked Anna to keep an eye on Robert and Sasha; Anna retorted that Holly owed Robert a proper good-bye. A movie scene followed with Holly searching for Robert, leaving him a letter, and getting a phone call from him on the tarmac telling her to turn around. “I’m coming with you,” he announced. “We’ve missed out on too much time together.”
It’s rare that a soap couple gets their happily ever after 40 years later, and these two deserve it. Here’s looking at you, kids.
Bold and Beautiful: Will And Electra Heat Up The Next Generation
Caroline Spencer and Ridge Forrester… Bill Spencer and Brooke Logan Forrester… Liam Spencer and Steffy Forrester… and here comes Will Spencer and Electra Forrester. “Promise me you won’t elope,” said a sarcastic Katie to her smitten son. Will told his mom that Electra was fast becoming his favorite part of working at Forrester and later proved it by kissing the comely newcomer.
A conversation with his father provided the first obstacle — a must-have in all teen romances — when Bill asked Will about the new girl in his life. Will danced around and then revealed her name. “You’re dating a Forrester?!” gasped Bill. Obstacle #2 is that Electra has a stalker, causing her to try and keep a low profile in her new role as jewelry designer at Forrester. “I’m going to do everything in my power to protect you,” vowed her Aunt Ivy after Electra’s face and new location in L.A. had been spread across the Internet. Oops.
An upbeat romance between two appealing newcomers from core families who face legitimate stumbling blocks is a designer recipe for Spencer/Forrester 3.0.
Days of our Lives: Johnny Tells EJ He Cheated
Jealousy and knee-jerk reactions run in the DiMera family, which was proven once again by Johnny when he suspected Chanel of cheating and promptly climbed into bed with Joy. The icing on the cake (pun intended) was attacking his wife at his birthday party and finding out it was Stephanie in bed with Alex, not Chanel. Overcome with guilt, Johnny turned to his dad who knows a thing or two about jumping to the wrong conclusion.
“I’m normally not so jealous,” Johnny confided, upset that he was so quick to believe the worst about Chanel. EJ opined that DiMera men are “passionate” and let Johnny off the hook, saying he merely jumped to the wrong conclusion. Well actually… he made another mistake, continued Johnny. “I thought Chanel was cheating on me, so in return I cheated on her.”
Sound familiar, EJ? He spent decades sweet talking (and blackmailing) Sami away from Lucas and even staged her daughter Sydney’s kidnapping so he could “rescue” her. For long-time fans, Johnny’s attack on Chanel and misguided one-night stand felt like vintage “Dad.” Kudos to DAYS for playing the connection and giving us a weighty father-son talk. There’s a hole where Stefan was. Maybe Johnny can fill it.
The Worst
GH: Lucky’s Return Fizzles
Lucky Spencer came back in August and his entire story since then has been I’m outta here. He’s seen the son he abandoned once and only crossed with Elizabeth by accident, mostly at the hospital. When he does run into his ex-wife, the conversation quickly devolves into Lucky griping that he can’t stay in Port Charles, he’s no good to Aiden, he never meant to stick around after Lulu’s surgery anyway, blah blah. Liz reminds him he’s Aiden’s father (!) and points out sad truths like how Sam would give anything to be with her kids right now while he’s abandoning his. “God forbid you pick that loving boy over your next adventure,” she scolded recently.
A bigger head scratcher was Lucky’s conversation with Sonny, telling his dad’s best friend he wants to go to Somalia because he has “purpose” out there in the world (while Aiden grows up fatherless in PC…). Sonny, who actually is a good dad (at least if we’re grading on a curve!), inexplicably advised Lucky not to stay just because other people want him to. “Isn’t that selfish?” asked the clueless Lucky.
Where’s the rooting value in an unkempt 40 year-old complaining he has to spend time with his family? Even Liz has no faith in her ex, which speaks volumes about this wrong turn. “When things get real,” she pronounced, “Lucky takes off.”
Y&R: Enough Already With Sharon
We now know baddies Jordan and Ian were likely involved in Heather’s death but, regardless of that out-of-left-field twist, Sharon has clearly needed help for months. She threatened Heather numerous times in public. She was the last person in Heather’s room and planted evidence against Daniel, but no one checked the cameras in that “high-security” apartment building. Most preposterously, Phyllis caught Sharon in her hotel room snooping for the evidence Phyllis claimed she had and called the cops. “This proves your guilt,” exulted Phyllis. Wrong! When Chance arrived, he demanded Phyllis show him her evidence and then let Sharon go. No questioning, no arrest for breaking and entering, no acknowledgment of her obvious guilt, just… Bye.
Later, when Sharon tried to admit to Nick that she ran Phyllis off the road, he pooh-poohed her confession. “You’re saying things you don’t mean,” he downplayed, insisting it was an accident and Sharon would never purposely hurt Phyllis. Sharon tried to interrupt but Nick wouldn’t have it: “Want some tea?”
The excuses for Sharon’s unhinged behavior have gone on waaaay too long, even for a soap opera. It’s time for some actual tea.
