Quick Take With Ingo Rademacher (Jax, GH)
Jax and Nina are pretty hot and heavy these days. How have you been enjoying working with Nina’s portrayer, Cynthia Watros? “I think we work really well together. We work off of one other, as well, and that will only get better as time goes on. She’s an amazing Nina. I just saw some of that little love montage that they had — that was very passionate! I hadn’t seen those scenes yet; I’ve been so busy that I forget I’m on the TV!”
There was a moment not too long ago between Nina and Ava where Ava basically said to Nina, “Be careful, you’ll always come second to Carly in Jax’s eyes.” I’m curious if you think Ava was on to something there. “Well, I mean, he wanted her back when he left [town the last time], right? Big time. The last time he was on three or four years ago. He went back to Australia, and he said, ‘Look, just come with me. Let’s just do this.’ I think there’s been that thing forever with him. Would he take her back right now? Probably. I would say so. I think there’s definitely that tension there. But she’s unavailable, so what do you do? As Jax, you get on with your life. You can’t sit and wait for somebody that’s never going to be available. Their breakup wasn’t like they didn’t get along, it was just a location thing a lot of the time and a Sonny difference and ultimatums and things like that. It wasn’t like they didn’t get along when they were married. It’s not like, ‘It was horrible to be married to her, I never want to be married to her again.’ That’s not the case for either one of them. There’s definitely that underlying love between the two of them. I think we’re going to be seeing a little bit more of that because we had started playing that right before we finished [taping before the shutdown]. There’s definitely that jealousy there.”
Given all their history, it seems like it will always be hard for Jax to totally accept that the person she moved on with is Sonny, even if he was married to Carly first! “Right. Jax doesn’t really have a choice. If Carly, the mother of my daughter, wants to marry him, then Jax, I guess, in a way is very rational when it comes to things like that. It’s like, ‘Okay, what would I gain to fight? I’m not going to get custody of my daughter. That’s never going to happen. There’s nothing I can do.’ I mean, think about it. What would you do? A custody fight wouldn’t work. He would never get custody away from the mother, so that would just stir things up. There’s no reason for it. The only thing he can do is just try to get along with Sonny because of the choices that his ex-wife, Carly, has made. I think he’s a good guy not to stir things up too badly. The chemistry with all of us is so strong. I think there could be a really interesting story for Laura [Wright, Carly] and Maurice [Benard, Sonny] and me — and, of course, with Cynthia, as well.”
