OLTL Recaps Week of May 16, 2005

Not that we are supposed to editorialize here, but this episode of OLTL was a complete and utter delight. Very entertaining. Very engrossing.
And on with what happened.
As always, many LLanview residents were dining at the Palace. Blair and Todd who were both relieved that the secret of Margaret’s rape was out in the open. Kevin and Kelly were also there, but there was some bickering going on between them, primarily regarding Kelly’s interest in Doorman’s life (my how the tables have turned).
Doreen and David were both seen primping for their dates. Of course, by the end of the episode both were surprised (and somewhat dismayed) to learn that they were each other’s “dream date.” Oh dear me.
Natalie held her ground and refused to let Nora take Matthew home. A very confused Nora (and let’s face it, she is the kid’s mother) didn’t understand why Bo insisted on that, but acquiesced let Natalie take Matthew to Llanfair for the evening. Matthew, too, was a little befuddled about it but cheered up considerably when Viki showed him old family videos of the Buchanan men (including his father) galloping on horseback.
Nora headed over to RJ’s to escape from the world (or at least her little corner of it). Lindsay was there also being comforted but had insisted that RJ make her go home, to face the empty house filled with memories of Jen. “If I don’t leave now, I’ll stay here forever,” Lindsay said. You know when Nora tells RJ that he’s the only man she can trust, that things have gotten very VERY bad for her. Nora was relieved that her cell phone had died, though not before a very uncomfortable conversation with Daniel.
And where was Daniel calling from? A gay bar in NYC. Bo and Rex had traced him there. How priceless was it when Bo and Rex looked around the bar, only to notice there were no women. Slowly it began to dawn on the guys, what Daniel’s deal was but Rex spelled it out by stating that Daniel had killed Paul because Paul knew Daniel was gay. Both Rex and Bo were being hit on by a number of men (very amusing, VERY AMUSING). Rex lovingly but his arms around Bo to show the others they were a couple i.e.. leave us alone, please. Finally, Bo spotted Daniel and well his goose was cooked so to speak.
The last scenes, however, were of Asa. (Yeah, Phil Carey is BACK!) His words to whoever was on the other end of the phone, “Tomorrow is D-Day. If anyone finds out where I am, shoot him.”

Little Jamie’s custody hearing began again, round two. For a moment there, it appeared that RJ’s character witness, Lindsay, would be a no show but she arrived at the last minute. Lindsay spoke highly about RJ and Antonio, but did say she wondered if it was wise to have Jamie in such close proximity with Jessica, a woman who was seen at bars picking up men. Jessica’s eyes popped out of her head at that pronouncement and then her brain started churning, where exactly was she during those blackouts. Later Jessica asked Lindsay if she was sure she had seen her at Xanadu. Lindsay, who thought that was a most odd question, said she was sure and asked, “Don’t you know where you’ve been?”
Jessica didn’t answer and instead ran, ran, ran to her doctor’s office for an emergency appointment. She promised to work hard in therapy, take the medication but stressed she would not be involving Antonio in her recovery.
Bo paid a visit to Nora, ostensibly to pick up Matthew, but he used his opportunity to bug her about Daniel. He wasted no time in asking her if she thought Daniel was having an affair. Nora stood her ground, getting madder and madder, but you could tell Bo was hitting some frayed nerves. Enter Riley “what has my dad done?” Riley stayed for a minute, read the poem Matthew had written about Jen and then left to bring the poem to the garage, the place Jen had been murdered and where friends had made a little shrine. Bo and Nora continued their “discussion” when Bo said “He’s not who you think he is.” Enter Daniel. “Just who do you think I am?” he said. Exit Bo with Matthew in tow. Moments after he left, he made a phone call ordering a tail on Daniel.
A hyped-up Rex practically went nuts at the police station determined to “get back” at Daniel. Bo managed to calm him down. Natalie kept hanging around insisting on being kept in the loop, but John shut her down, by letting her know that if it was up to him, she wouldn’t be at the police station at all. But that was her uncle’s (that would be Bo) decision.
Bo brought Matthew to the police station and asked Natalie to keep an eye on him. In fact, Bo wanted Natalie to bring Matthew to Llanfair and under no circumstances allow Nora to bring him home. Needless to say, Nora was somewhat stunned when she heard this bit of information. “I’m his mother,” she said in disbelief.
Rex wanted to talk to Jen, so he headed to the garage (which interestingly enough never seems to have cars parked in it) to stand near her shrine. Riley and Mark also showed up. (The son and lover of Jen’s murderer. Such symmetry is not missed on this recapper.) Riley posted the poem and Mark quickly left to meet up with Daniel. Rex got agitated once again and swore to John that he wanted to make Daniel suffer. John pointed out that the truth would come out and if Rex took things into his own hands he’d probably end up behind bars. Rex chilled for about a minute. Rex then read the aforementioned poem, tore it off the wall and ran back to Bo’s office. Bo and John asked Matthew where the poem had been printed. “Mr. Colson let me use his printer,” Matthew answered innocently. Bo then got a call that Daniel had been spotted in a black car with an unidentified man heading to the Lincoln Tunnel in New York City. Bo and Rex went after them and ended up at a bar at 23rd Street and 8th Avenue. Rex’s closing observation: We’re not in Kansas anymore.

Rex, Bo and John all powowed on how to find Jen’s killer. They were convinced that the same person who murdered Paul also killed Jen. Bo and Rex informed John that Ted was Daniel. Many lightbulbs went off. The three crimefighters came to the conclusion that Daniel must have killed both Paul and Jen and that Paul was blackmailing Daniel about an affair he was having. But who was he having the affair with? Who indeed?
Mark dropped by (isn’t timing everything?) to see if they could rename the community garden after Jen.
Separately, Viki and Adriana encouraged David and Dorian to start dating — other people. And since it’s 2005, online dating was the only way to go. Dorian called herself One Perfect Rose; David chose the name King of Hearts. Guess what. One Perfect Rose sent her profile to King of Hearts. That was a no-brainer.
Daniel continued to pace about the living room, looking sick to his stomach, sensing that something very bad was about to happen, but trying to pretend everything was okay. Mark left a CD at Nora/Daniel’s doorstep, one that Mark had burned especially for Daniel and was aptly titled “When
We’re Apart.” Nora caught Daniel with the CD in his hands and asked him about it. Daniel did some quick on-his-feet lying and said he had made it for Nora and was going to leave it on her pillow the first night they were apart (and he was in Harrisburg, WITH MARK).
Evangeline dropped in on Natalie to talk about John. However, Natalie wasn’t in the mood to discuss him and things got very nasty very fast. Evangeline left and Natalie look annoyed.
Michael found Marcie cleaning up the gallery after the memorial service. Marcie was clearly annoyed with him (because he vanished from her side during the service) until he explained that he had left because he was doing a hush-hush second autopsy on Jen. He shared the results: Jen had NOT killed herself, she had been murdered, news that made Marcie feel a little better about things, but not by much. Michael called Marcie on her odd behavior toward him. She kept pulling away. Why was that? Through her tears, she explained that everyone she’s close to dies. Michael assured her that Jen’s death had absolutely nothing to do with her and he held her close.

Blair held firm to her conviction that despite Todd’s assurances to the contrary, she just KNOWS that Margaret must be pregnant. The couple spent the entire episode debating this; too bad Blair didn’t see what we the viewers saw. Margaret getting the nursery ready and a little embroidered pillow that read: Todd Jr. Uh-oh.
A reception following Jen’s memorial service was held at Lindsay’s gallery. Will met Rex for the first time and wasn’t all that nice. Bo offered Will his two cents — “Rex really loved your sister and was trying to clear her name.” The most priceless moment was watching Marcie look at Mark gazing at Nora and Bo hugging. Talk about Marcie’s having TMI. Daniel spent most of the reception trying to eavesdrop on Bo’s conversation with Rex and others where the main topic of conversation was the fact that Jen had probably NOT committed suicide. The only bright point during the reception for Daniel was when he got the call from the Governor saying he had been named Lt. Gov.
The brothers McBain shared a true CSI moment. John watched Michael conduct an autopsy on Jen’s body, an illegal one at that. The result? Without a doubt Jen had been murdered. “Time to catch the bad guy,” John proclaimed.
Jessica met with her doctor and tried to explain what had been happening, the blackouts, her mother’s medical history, DID. She also thought she could trace some of this odd behavior to when her baby daughter Megan had died. (Some back history here: Jessica had been nine months pregnant with Will’s baby when Dorian ran her over with a car.) After that tragedy, Jessica had begun to gaslight Dorian and do weird things. However, as Jessica explained to her doctor, she only knew she had done these things because people had told her she had. Jessica had no clear recollection of tormenting Dorian. Perhaps a connection has been made?
Rex got quite antsy at the reception and decided he had to get some dirt on Daniel. He headed to Daniel’s office only to be caught tearing the place apart by Bo (thank goodness it was just Bo). Bo offered to show Rex how something like that is truly done and the two new partners in crime solving started to search the office. By the end of the episode Rex had found something truly incriminating — Daniel’s passport. Guess what Daniel’s first name is? Theodore, which can be shortened to TED.

Todd, filled to the brim with self-loathing, told Blair all about Margaret’s “rape” and her desire to have a child. “I had to give her what she wanted,” Todd explained, adding that that was the only way Todd could guarantee his family’s safety. Though Todd assured Blair that Margaret’s pregnancy test had come back negative, Blair couldn’t help but wonder out loud if there was any chance that Margaret could be carrying’s Todd’s baby. Good question, Blair.
There was an obvious dark cloud over Llanview as many residents gathered for Jen Rappaport’s memorial service. For a few there was also that little “gay secret” that became the elephant in the vestry. Mark kept making comments on how his family supported him no matter what, alluding to the fact that perhaps Riley wouldn’t be that supportive of Daniel if Daniel was openly gay. Then all poor Marcie could think of while Nora went on and on about how tough things were with Daniel was Mark’s little tidbit that Daniel was the man he was having the affair with.
A fragile Viki started the service and spoke movingly about Jen in particular, and life in general. Jen’s brother Will (nice to see you Jason-Shane Scott) talked about their childhood. Even little Matthew was a brave little soldier and spoke on behalf of his sister. Riley had a near meltdown at the podium which caused Nora great concern, especially the fact that Daniel didn’t seem to care about his son’s obvious distress. Marcie brought down the house with a moving tribute to Jen by singing “Borrowed Angels.” Rex and Natalie got to the service a little late, because Rex was at the police station try to convince John (and later Michael) that Jen had been murdered. John had called Michael away from the service to do a “favor” an autopsy on Jen. Ewww. At first Michael was horrified at the idea, saying that both the McBain boys would lose their jobs. “You can always enroll in that truck driving school,” John joked to Michael. Michael got over his initial hesitation and soon got to work at performing the autopsy, also determined to prove that Jen had been murdered and by whom.
Rex urged the mourners to remember one thing about Jen: “Jen loved life.”
