Matt Cohen on His New Young and Restless Role: ‘He’s Good, He’s Bad, He’s Everything in Between’
When the character of Detective Burrow makes his debut in the October 16 episode of Young and Restless, he may look familiar to some viewers. Portrayer Matt Cohen has appeared in numerous prime time series like Supernatural, 90210, and How to Get Away With Murder, but is best known to soap fans for his 2016-19 run as Dr. Griffin Munro on General Hospital.
On the Case
The actor is excited to add another role to his resume and sink his teeth into a whole new character. “I had been wanting to play a very similar role to this for a long time,” Cohen told TV Insider. “It’s a really fun detective. He’s good, he’s bad, he’s everything in between. He’s got a lot to deliver for the audience. Sharon and Nick have a big situation going on, and he’s involved. He’s investigating, and he’s going to get to the bottom of it in one way, shape, or form, and the result is going to be astounding.”
Y&R is a new environment for Cohen to be working in, but he’s in the company of plenty of familiar faces. Not only has he been longtime friends with Michael Graziadei (Daniel), but his former GH co-stars Michelle Stafford (Phyllis; ex-Nina, GH), Hayley Erin (Claire; ex-Kiki, GH), Roger Howarth (ex-Austin, GH et al), and Tamara Braun (Sienna; ex-Kim, GH) are all now working at the CBS soap. “We are really having fun,” he enthused. “It’s a bunch of old friends getting to play around on the stage again, and it’s been really rewarding.”
The actor reported that everyone at Y&R was very welcoming, but he did experience a major setback when he ruptured his Achilles’ tendon while playing with his 10-year-old son, Macklin, and required surgery. Thankfully, the injury will not be noticeable on screen. “It took me out of work for almost a week, and then we got back to it,” he explained.
And he’s been loving every second. “I can’t wait to show [the audience] me in this new outfit, this new feel, this new name, this new character,” he enthused. “It’s been brilliant. It’s just the best situation to walk into you possibly could.”
