Kimberly McCullough Shares How a Fan Encounter ‘Made Me Miss My GH Family A Whole Lot’

Comments

It’s been many years since Kimberly McCullough has been on General Hospital as Robin, but over the weekend, the actress-turned-director shared a “fan appreciation post” on Instagram after a run-in with a soap fan who remembered her from her decades in daytime.

“Today, an enthusiastic, sweet GH fan recognized me on the street,” McCullough reported. “It’s been a while, so at first I didn’t know she was talking to me — LOL. She said, ‘Thank you for all that you’ve put out in the world through Robin.’ It was one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever received. Made me miss my GH family a whole lot, to be honest.”

McCullough joined the cast of GH back in 1985 when she was just 7 years old. Over the years, she earned multiple Daytime Emmy Award nominations and took home the Outstanding Younger Actress trophy in 1989 (when it was called Outstanding Juvenile Female) and again in 1996. The second award was for her performance in the powerful storyline where Robin and her boyfriend, Stone, were both diagnosed with HIV, and he subsequently died of complications from AIDS.

Following that heartbreaking storyline, McCullough was paired with Steve Burton as Robin helped Jason navigate his memory loss following his car accident, and they began dating. She was also the one who introduced Jason to Sonny back in the day.

“She said Robin and Jason were her fav,” McCullough continued. “I miss you, Steve Burton! It’s funny, so many years later, how I can look at a photo of us when we were babies, and my nostalgic heart is instantly filled with fun memories. Thank you, Bridget, for being a fan, and thank you for saying something. It made my day.”

The last time that McCullough was seen on GH was back in May 2021, when Robin attended a memorial service for Sean Donely. Since leaving the soap as a full-time cast member in 2012 to focus on her directing career, the actress has found great success behind the camera, helming episodes of television series like Fuller House, One Day at a Time, The Bold Type, Fantasy Island, How I Met Your Father, and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She is currently at work on the upcoming original musical No Te Olvides (which translates to “Don’t Forget”), which is set to begin filming this fall.

Of course, as this fan encounter reminds, no matter where McCullough’s career takes her, there are still plenty of GH viewers who will always fondly remember her as Robin Scorpio Drake.
