Kelly Thiebaud Confirms That She’s Back On General Hospital as Britt: ‘I’m Very Much Excited’
Jason was stunned to catch a glimpse of a woman at the airport in Paris who looked exactly like Britt on General Hospital. While he still has yet to discover her true identity on the soap, TV Insider broke the news that Kelly Thiebaud has returned as Britt Westbourne, who is not nearly as dead as everyone believes, and not as a lookalike. “I feel so lucky to have a character that I really enjoy playing,” Thiebaud declared. “I definitely missed her.”
Back in Action
Thiebaud joined the cast of GH back in September 2012 and played the trouble-making doctor on and off over the years. Her most recent run, which began back in September 2020, appeared to be more long-term, but her character was killed off at the very beginning of 2023 when the actress opted to leave the show. Explaining her decision to Soap Opera Digest, Thiebaud said, “As much as I love Britt and I love the fans and I love working on General Hospital, I just felt like I had to leave and go and pursue those other dreams and goals of mine, because being [on GH full time] doesn’t really allow the flexibility to do other projects.”
Her exit was facilitated via Britt being slashed by the serial killer known as The Hook (later revealed to be Heather Webber) while trying to save Josslyn. The poison in the hook did its job, and viewers watched as Britt died in the arms of her mother, Liesl Obrecht. Although now that she’s off flying around Europe, there’s clearly more to the story — one that Jason will have to uncover.
Britt and Jason were only just beginning to explore their connection when Steve Burton exited GH in November 2021, and his character was once again presumed dead. Jason showed up alive and well in March 2024, and now that Britt has done the same, Thiebaud is excited to pick up where things left off.
“That was heartbreaking when that pairing got separated and could no longer continue on the road that they were going on,” she shared. “It felt like I finally found someone that I could really grow with on the show, and I was so excited for it, so hopefully, that continues.”
Another storyline thread that will be picked up is Rocco (Finn Car) looking for answers now that he knows the truth that Britt stole one of Lulu and Dante’s embryos and gave birth to their child herself. “That’s going to be exciting for sure,” Thiebaud enthused.
The actress is thrilled to be back in Port Charles and once more playing the character that she has grown to love over the years. “As far as story goes, obviously, I want Britt and Jason to get back together,” Thiebaud said. “I’m very much excited to pick up where we left off, to continue to grow as an actor, take the lessons and the experiences I’ve been through, and be better and more present in my work, be more present on set with people that work so hard to put the show together. That’s just really what I’m focused on.”
