General Hospital Star Finola Hughes Shows Off Her ‘Cool New Shag’ Haircut
Every so often, it feels like it’s time for a new look, and General Hospital star Finola Hughes (Anna) decided that she was going to change it up a bit by getting a soft, sculpted shag with long, side-swept bangs. So the actress turned to hairstylist Jane Matthews to make her vision a reality.

“I was so excited to meet Jayne,” Hughes enthused on Instagram. “I’ve been following her work for about a year and really wanted a cool shag, and Jayne killed it! So excited to have a fresh new look! Jayne, loved meeting you, such a great morning. Thank you for caring so much about your clients and really listening and spending time with us! I love it.”
The GH star posted a video to Instagram where you can see Matthews creating the stunning new ‘do by carefully cutting sections of hair with a straight razor, followed by Hughes posing to show off the finished look.
“Finola wanted something a bit more intentional that highlighted her gorgeous features,” Matthews explained on her own Instagram. “So we gave her a cut that exposed her cheekbones, eyes, and beautiful smile… now there’s suddenly lightness and more movement. When you take out weight in the right places, you get a cut that feels intentional, yet effortless. I can’t believe I got a chance to cut Finola’s hair! I remember seeing her at the movies during the Flashdance/Staying Alive double feature. Thanks for trusting me!”
Naturally, the comments on Hughes’s Instagram posts about her new makeover filled up with compliments from fans and friends. “Perfect for you! Love it!” declared Cady McClain (Pamela, Beyond the Gates), who played Dixie alongside Hughes’s Alex and Anna on All My Children. Cameron Mathison (Drew), who also worked with Hughes on AMC, where he played Ryan, commented with a row of heart-eye emojis to show just how much he loved her new look. Rebecca Budig (Taylor, Bold and Beautiful), who starred as Greenlee on AMC before joining GH as Hayden, wrote: “Love love love!!! So you!”
“You’re amazing!” shared Laura Wright (Carly), adding, “Love love.” One of Hughes’s best friends, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Young and Restless), cheered: “Yes!!!!” followed by a series of heart and flame emojis. Cassandra James (Terry) exclaimed: “OMG! Coolest gal I know!” Tanisha Harper (Jordan) declared it “The coolest!!” Former GH star Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda) commented: “Guapa!!!!!” And Hughes’s former co-star on prime time series Charmed, actress Rose McGowan, also weighed in: “Finola!!! You look cool and edgy and sexy and powerful and honest. You beauty!”
