General Hospital Recap: Natalia Dies, Marco Rescues Kristina And Alexis Rages At Sonny!

It was an explosive evening in Port Charles on the July 1 episode of General Hospital, as the rivalry between Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Sidwell (Carlo Rota) reached an all-time high! After a firebomb ripped through Charlie’s Pub, trapping Kristina (Kate Mansi) inside, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) came to her rescue… as his mother, Natalia (Eva LaRue), died from a drug and alcohol overdose! All Lit Up

Having received a call that her manager was sick and unable to open the place, Kristina ditched Daisy’s reception after her christening and arrived at Charlie’s Pub through the back door. Sensing that something was off, Kristina looked around the room and then took in a deep breath, smelling something in the air. Bending down, she rubbed her fingers across the floor behind the bar; then, just as she warily brought her hand up to her face to sniff whatever was on the floor, a firebomb flew through the glass window on the restaurant’s door! Frozen in place, Kristina watched from behind the bar as the dining room started to burn, but eventually gathered her thoughts enough to grab a fire extinguisher. The small device, however, was no match for the raging inferno. Luckily for Kristina, Marco showed up and rescued her from the burning building. Dante was next to arrive at the scene, just moments after Marco got Kristina to the safety of the parking lot. “Someone tried to kill me,” a shaky Kristina told her brother, as the three of them watched the building burn.

Having received a call about the fire, Sonny and Jason ditched the reception for Daisy at the Quartermaines and booked over to Charlie’s — where Jason was immediately suspicious of Sidwell’s son’s presence. “What are you doing here?” Jason questioned Marco. Jumping to Marco’s defense, Kristina praised him for saving her life as she explained to Sonny, Jason, and Dante what had happened, from noticing the smell of gasoline to Marco bursting through the door to rescue her. “And you just happened to be in the area?” Sonny asked, not quite sure what to make of the coincidence that Sidwell’s son saved his daughter. Explaining that he saw the fire as he was on his way to the Metro Court, Marco trailed off, suddenly remembering that his mother’s troublesome behavior from earlier in the evening. “I really need to get to my mother. Can I answer these questions later?” Marco asked Det. Falconeri. But Sonny ordered the attorney to stay put. “You’re not going anywhere,” he informed Marco.

News Spreads Like Wildfire

Meanwhile, Molly was at the Quartermaine mansion dropping off a gift for Daisy when she got a phone call and learned that Charlie’s was on fire. Cody offered to drive her there and on the way, Molly opened up to him about her fear of losing another sibling, especially so soon after she and Kristina repaired their relationship. Molly also called her mom, who was at Wyndemere, meeting with Sidwell. Alexis bolted for the mainland, while a fuming Sidwell placed a call. “My instructions were very clear: do not set the fire unless the building is empty. Empty!” he yelled at whomever had done his dirty work. “If Sonny Corinthos’s daughter was in that fire, there’ll be hell to pay.”

Opposite this, Michael shared with Sasha that he still had to take pain pills from the catastrophic burns he suffered when Sonny’s place went up in flames and vowed that his own children would be spared such violence. “I can promise you, Sasha. Nothing like that fire is ever going to happen to any of my kids.”

Emotions Run High

Back at Charlie’s, an emotional Molly was relieved to see that her sister had escaped the fire with just a few burns. “I was so scared after Sam,” she cried, pulling Kristina into a hug. Alexis, too, was relieved to see Kristina more or less unharmed. But knowing that her daughter’s life was at risk because of the violence constantly surrounding Sonny set her off as she relived the tragedy of losing Sam. “I will not bury another daughter!” she yelled. Although Kristina and Sonny both tried to make the point to Alexis that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined, she stuck to her guns. “Don’t patronize me! It is not irrational to want my children safe,” she barked at Sonny. “You and I have both lost children. And we know how painful it is. And I can’t go through it again. I won’t.”

Diffusing the tension between her parents, Kristina convinced Alexis to accompany her to get checked out at the hospital, and Cody drove all three Davis women to G.H. As Sonny and Jason discussed the importance of getting to the bottom of who was behind the fire, they overheard one of the firefighters tell Dante that it was arson and Charlie’s was now a crime scene!

Natalia’s Dead!

At the Metro Court, Anna and Chase found Natalia unresponsive in her room. She was taken to G.H., where Elizabeth and Isaiah worked on reviving her to no avail. Sadly, Dr. Gannon pronounced Natalia dead. Unable to reach Marco, Elizabeth called Lucas, knowing that they’d had plans. However, Marco’s MIA status was concerning to Lucas, since he hadn’t heard from his boyfriend since Marco left him earlier that evening to go see his mother.

Back in Natalia’s hotel room, Chase and Anna wondered if the combination of booze and pills meant that she’d tried to take her own life, or if something more sinister was at play. Moving their investigation over to the hospital, Anna urged Isaiah to get the autopsy done ASAP so they could determine the cause of death, but Lucas reminded them that her next of kin had yet to be notified. “We can’t do the autopsy until Marco knows that his mother’s dead,” he insisted.

Even though the paramedics suggested Marco go to the hospital and be evaluated for smoke inhalation, he was determined to get back to Natalia at the Metro Court. But having learned from a phone call with Anna that Marco was needed at G.H., Dante gently urged him to go to the hospital. Walking through the hospital doors, Marco was surprised to see Lucas waiting for him, and Lucas was surprised to see Marco covered in ashes. Lucas tried to break the news about Natalia, but they were interrupted by Anna and Chase, who wanted to speak with him about his mother. “My mother? Why? Is she here? Is she okay?” Marco frantically asked before pushing past Lucas and racing to a nearby room. Throwing open the door, Marco gasped, covering his mouth in shock, as he saw his mother’s lifeless body in the hospital bed.
