General Hospital Recap: Michael’s Alibi Is Destroyed at Willow’s Trial, Kristina Pays Jacinda To Leave Town

Comments

On the January 5 episode of General Hospital, it was a rough day for the prosecution when Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) trial resumed. Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) questioned Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) about his bias toward his brother, Ezra’s (Daniel Cosgrove) testimony destroyed Michael’s (Rory Gibson) alibi, and Kristina (Kate Mansi) was too late in getting Jacinda (Paige Herschell) to leave Port Charles before she was called to the stand. Elsewhere in town, Laura (Genie Francis) convinced Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) to take their grandson overseas, Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) fought over Portia’s (Brook Kerr) decision to delay a paternity test, Emma (Braedyn Bruener) sought out Jack’s (Chris McKenna) help, and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) snuck off to visit Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). Here’s how it all went down!

Irish Spring

Following Sidwell’s threat against Ace, Laura urged Kevin to accept the teaching position in Dublin and bring the toddler to Ireland with him. Kevin assumed Laura would go too, but she was adamant about remaining in Port Charles to protect Sonny and the rest of their family and figure out a way to get out from under Sidwell’s control. Refusing to abandon Laura, Kevin declared that he would stay, but she eventually convinced him that the best way to help her was to keep their grandson out of harm’s way by going overseas.

Paternity Row

At the hospital for an appointment, Portia was stunned to learn that Britt’s medical license had been reinstated and that Dr. Westbourne would be taking over her case from Dr. Navarro. Arriving for the appointment, Curtis had reservations about Britt’s involvement and asked to speak with Portia privately. Portia reassured Curtis that Britt was an excellent doctor, and he asked her to have the paternity test done since she was now in her second trimester. Claiming that finding out who the father was would be stressful and potentially negatively impact the baby, Portia told Curtis she wanted more time before getting the test done.

After Portia received a positive report from Britt, Elizabeth popped into the exam room to check on her friend. Portia confided that while she’d told Isaiah she hoped he was the father, she was now hoping, for the sake of the baby and for Trina, that the child was Curtis’s. Meanwhile, Curtis tracked down Britt by the hub and informed her that he wanted to schedule a paternity test ASAP. Overhearing their exchange, Isaiah interrupted to declare that it wasn’t going to happen. Britt exited into the elevator after telling both men that any decision had to come from Portia. Isaiah and Curtis continued to quarrel about Portia’s decision to postpone the paternity test, with Curtis ultimately proclaiming that if the baby turned out to be his, the child would not be a part of Isaiah and Portia’s relationship.

Take The Money And Run

Outside Bobbie’s, Jacinda met with Kristina, who begged her to leave town before she had to testify in court. With that, Kristina handed her a backpack stuffed with enough cash to start over somewhere else. Unable to give details, Kristina warned that things would not go well for Jacinda or Michael, and Jacinda pieced together that Kristina knew whatever it was she knew because her mom was Willow’s attorney. Taking the backpack, Jacinda asked Kristina to let Michael know why she left, and Kristina agreed to tell her brother what she could before taking off. Touching her new bracelet, Jacinda flashed back to when Michael gave her the jewelry as a gift, then walked away from the restaurant.

Picture (Not-So) Perfect

As she reconnected with Jack over lunch, Carly peppered him about Valentin’s case, and the WSB agent revealed that he was starting to doubt that the fugitive was in Port Charles. Playing dumb about Valentin and his whereabouts, Carly asked if that also meant he wasn’t coming after Jack, but Brennan replied that he was sure Valentin was plotting his revenge — and possibly recruiting other people to help him. They were interrupted by a frantic Emma, who was worried that it had been so long since she’d been in touch with her grandmother (aside from a brief voicemail from a blocked number and the photo Anna had sent on Christmas). Concerned, Jack told Emma that he’d been kept out of the loop on Anna’s mission but would try to track her down, and had Emma send him the photo so he could try to retrieve metadata from the image.

After Emma left, Carly suggested that maybe Anna was the person helping Valentin, but Jack thought Anna was too smart to commit treason. Once Carly exited, Jack placed a phone call, asking the other person to find out where Anna was based on the picture. He hung up when Britt entered the diner, and while she tried to avoid him, he insisted she sit down. Reminding Britt that he’d fulfilled his side of their bargain by having her medical license reinstated, he warned that he expected her to find a way to get him the research from Sidwell’s lab.

Far And Away

At the Quartermaine stables, Charlotte updated Danny on her Christmas Eve visit with her father, who had been hiding out at Carly’s house. She told Danny that she had her police escort bring her to the Quartermaine mansion to see him, figuring she would then take Hades through the woods to Carly’s and visit with her dad again. Knowing Tracy would be ticked off if Charlotte took Hades, Danny instead took her through the woods on his motorbike.

In Carly’s attic, Valentin packed up the Christmas tree and flashed back to his clandestine meeting with Charlotte. He rushed to hide behind the bookcase when he heard steps outside and was stunned to see Charlotte open the door. Although ecstatic to see his daughter again, he was angry that she risked her safety — and his— and asked Charlotte to wait for his next signal (a key with a red ribbon) once he’d accomplished his goal and they could be together for good. Before leaving, Charlotte told Valentin about her encounter with Mr. Sidwell. Alarmed, Valentin told his daughter to keep her distance from the dangerous man, then made Charlotte promise not to visit again.

Once Danny and Charlotte returned to the stables, she confided that she was bummed because her dad didn’t want her to return. He wasn’t just worried about the police finding him, Charlotte added, but also about Mr. Sidwell. Danny then shared that Sidwell had tried to kill his dad in Africa and volunteered to help Charlotte with whatever she did next to help her father. Meanwhile, Carly returned home to find Valentin zipping up a duffel bag, preparing to flee.

Defensive Attack

Willow’s trial resumed at the courthouse, and Josslyn was there to support Michael since he was scheduled to testify. At the defense table, Drew tried to calm a nervous Willow, then blasted Alexis for botching Portia’s testimony before the break, stating that he hoped her time with Scout over the holidays reminded her of what’s at stake. Alexis informed them both that she’d try to convince the jury that Michael should be the one on trial.

As Alexis’s first witness, Dante was questioned about the PCPD’s investigation into Michael. Establishing that Michael’s alibi was just as flimsy as Willow’s, Alexis asked if Dante didn’t investigate Michael further because they were brothers, and Justine immediately objected. Judge Sullivan overruled when Alexis explained that her questioning was intended to explore a third-party culprit, and the defense attorney then brought up Michael’s 2009 arrest and how Dante intervened on his brother’s behalf during that trial.

Taking over questioning, Justine had Dante confirm that Anna was the commissioner when Willow was arrested. Then, circling back to when Michael killed Claudia, Justine had Dante explain that he didn’t think it was fair that his brother was a minor at the time but convicted as an adult, so he’d asked the judge to commute Michael’s sentence, making it a more appropriate punishment.

Crash And Burn

Next up to the witness box was Ezra Boyle. As Ezra was sworn in, Drew hissed at Alexis that there would be hell to pay if he received any blowback from Boyle’s testimony. Telling Drew to sit down, Alexis snapped that it had nothing to do with him, then proceeded to ask Ezra if he was at the Brown Dog Bar on election night. When Justine interjected that the question was a discovery violation, Judge Sullivan overruled, telling the prosecutor it was her fault if she hadn’t interviewed someone on the defense’s witness list. Continuing, Alexis asked Ezra about speaking with Det. Harrison Chase at the bar on election night, and how he’d revealed that he’d been with an escort. Alexis then had Ezra confirm that he’d been at a seedy hotel with Jacinda Bracken during the time frame that Drew Cain was shot — obliterating Michael’s alibi! During cross-examination, Justine asked Ezra for proof that he was, in fact, with Jacinda that specific night, but he said he had none.

When the judge then called for a recess, Drew gloated that Michael was cooked, and Alexis warned him to tone down his smug look before the jury noticed. Willow rejoiced that Chase had come through for her after all, and Michael revealed to Josslyn that he didn’t know Jacinda had been with Ezra that night.

In the hallway, Michael was calling Jacinda when she approached and instructed him to get the kids and leave town before either of them could testify. Michael reported that the jury had just heard testimony that they weren’t together the night Drew was shot, but before he could elaborate, the bailiff told Jacinda it was time for her to take the stand. Under oath, Jacinda testified that she’d partied with Drew back in April and hit it off with Michael when they met at the Port Charles Grill on September 2, the night of the shooting. Then, Alexis asked Jacinda if she had been with Michael during the period that evening when Drew Cain was shot, and she froze.
