General Hospital Recap: Drew Has A Stroke, Willow Conceals Her Latest Crime and Britt Is Ordered To Dump Jason

Comments

On the January 21 episode of General Hospital, news of Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) medical crisis took Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Tracy (Jane Elliot) by surprise… but not his wife, Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), who was responsible for it! Meanwhile, Curtis (Donnell Turner) went to bat for Portia (Brook Kerr), Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) plan to take Jason (Steve Burton) out on a date was foiled by Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), and tensions reached a breaking point between Chase (Josh Swickard) and Michael (Rory Gibson)! Get all the details, and find out what else happened below.

Shelve It

Sonny suggested to Justine that she’d be compromised in prosecuting his son since she’d been at his house when Drew attempted to extort him by threatening Michael. Agreeing, Justine stated she’d be relieved to recuse herself if the D.A.’s office charged Michael because she knew Willow was guilty. Then, Sonny wondered why anyone had to be charged, since Drew had a lot of enemies in town and any one of them could have shot him. Justine sighed that Alexis had given every defense attorney in town a roadmap on how to get their client acquitted. Sonny thought that whoever was prosecuted next was going to get off because no jury would convict someone for shooting a snake like Drew. Justine maintained that everyone deserved justice, but Sonny mused that the case should be shelved as unsolved because Drew already got what he deserved.

Limited Choices

Showing Jason her new office at G.H., Britt declared it was the first step in her getting her life back, then gave him a payment toward her Café Cherie bill. He refused the money, but she wanted them to be on equal footing so they could move forward. She then asked Jason out on a fancy date that required him to wear a suit. Unbeknownst to Britt, Cullum was trailing them, and she was stunned to see him enter her office after Jason left. Cullum ordered her to begin working at the Spoon Island lab that evening and gave her a deadline of three months to have the project online.

When Britt balked at the timeline, Cullum threatened to make her disappear, and the prospect of vanishing from the life she’d just returned to got Britt even more worked up. He then declared that a timely completion was their priority, so they’d assume all risks, and Britt asked for one more day. Telling her that she’d already been given too much leeway, Cullum said that he had another scientist lined up to take Britt’s place, and reminded her that without her medication, her nervous system would begin to deteriorate. Backed into a corner, Britt agreed to go to Wyndemere that night. Pleased that Britt was toeing the line, Cullum prepared to exit — but not before telling the doctor that Jason Morgan had been a problem at the Five Poppies and if she didn’t get him out of her life, he’d do it himself!

Fight Club

In the Quartermaine den, Chase and Michael got into a heated argument over the detective’s belief that Michael had framed Willow because he’d do anything to get what he wanted. Michael shouted back that Willow breaking up their marriage and putting their kids in danger by bringing Drew into their lives was not what he wanted. Next, Chase accused Michael of causing that danger because when Willow was being manipulated by Drew, he had gone for revenge instead of offering forgiveness. Michael should be the one locked up and kept away from the kids, Chase fumed, not Willow. To that, Michael said Chase was so desperate to be Willow’s hero that he threw away his entire career after falling for her innocent victim act, and implied that the real reason Chase wanted to help Willow was that he wanted to get back into her bed. A brawl then broke out between the former friends, with Chase throwing the first punch. After Jason arrived to break up the fistfight, Chase spat that he’d make sure Michael paid for what he’d done before leaving the room.

Confiding in his uncle that he was worried that the police were going to come for him, Michael swore that he didn’t shoot Drew. Jason reminded Michael that he’d survived life-threatening burns to come home to his children, so he could get through this, too. Michael also shared that he was worried Willow might get partial custody now that she’d been exonerated, and he didn’t want the kids at Drew’s house. Jason vowed that he’d make sure that Drew was never a part of Wiley and Amelia’s lives.

Emergency Call

Arriving at Bad Jen Café to meet Nina, Ava smiled when she spotted Trina and Kai canoodling at a table. The young lovers’ blissful bubble popped when Curtis approached and asked to speak with his daughter privately. He wanted to know if she’d heard from Portia, and when Trina confided that she’d told her mom she needed space, Curtis shared that he thought Portia could use their support since she was facing a board meeting at the hospital about the future of her employment there. Though still mad, Trina didn’t want her mom to lose her medical career because she’d been protecting her. She asked if there was anything she could do, but Curtis declared that there was something he could do, then swiftly exited.

Across the café, Nina vented to Ava that Willow only married Drew to beat the attempted murder charges and regain custody of her kids. And while her daughter no longer needed him to get the children back, she knew Drew was never going to let Willow go. Their conversation was cut short when Nina got a phone call from Willow, who put on a show of being frantic because something had happened to Drew.

Staying behind at Bad Jen, Ava and Trina chatted about how happy the latter was to be back with Kai. Then Ava got a text that the shipping fees for Sidwell’s latest purchase were higher than expected. Trina thought Sidwell would be fine with the cost once he realized he’d have the notoriety of being the first collector to bring this artist’s work to the Northern Hemisphere. Ava agreed, noting that Jenz did have international business dealings, and if all went well, she might be the artist’s primary dealer. Trina then warned her boss to be careful since she’d heard Sidwell might be a dangerous man, but Ava reassured her protégé that she knew how to deal with men like Jenz. Besides, Ava added, her nephew Lucas lived at Sidwell’s home now, and he was fine. Between the art deal and visiting Lucas, Ava declared that she planned to spend more time at Wyndemere.

Defending Your Life

As Portia arrived at the hospital for a meeting regarding her suspension, she was confronted by Stella. Stella asked if risking her career and losing her family had been worth it, and Portia snapped that her career was at risk because she’d chosen to protect her daughter, not because she’d had an affair with Dr. Gannon and had gotten pregnant. After Portia stormed off, Stella saw Isaiah, who’d overheard the conversation, but when he attempted to talk to her, she growled that the situation between her and Portia was a family matter and he was not family. Disagreeing, Isaiah pointed out that Portia’s marriage was falling apart long before he entered the picture, and she wasn’t the only one to blame for that. Stella was taken aback when Isaiah noted how she’s known around the hospital for being fair and kind and asked her to extend that same grace to Portia.

In a conference room, Tracy and Laura prepared to meet with Portia as the special committee tasked to make a recommendation to the hospital board on whether to reinstate or dismiss the disgraced doctor. Tracy suggested that the board side with Portia since they knew Drew had blackmailed the doctor, but Laura replied that Portia’s admitting to tampering with a patient’s test results complicated matters. As the meeting got underway, they gave Portia a chance to defend herself. Taking full responsibility for her actions, Portia asserted that altering a patient’s test results was a unique and extreme situation in which she was trying to protect her child from a murderer, and aside from that atypical incident, her record was sterling. Then, when Laura asked what she’d say to a potential patient who had concerns about her treating them, Portia explained how Drew was proof of her dedication to the oath she’d taken as a doctor since she’d saved the life of her tormentor (rather than purposely botching the surgery when given the chance).

Meeting up with Isaiah after the meeting, Portia shared that she felt she represented herself well, and he was sure the board would see her as a fantastic doctor. As Isaiah was about to walk Portia out of the hospital, Stella caught up with them and apologized for her behavior. In return, Portia apologized for any pain her actions had caused Stella and the rest of the family, tearfully declaring that she still loved them all.

Do The Right Thing

Returning to the mayor’s office, Laura found Curtis waiting for her, since he knew Laura had input on whether Portia would be reinstated. He shared that not many people knew that Drew’s blackmail wasn’t just about Heather Webber’s test results; Drew was trying to force Portia to change Michael’s blood test results, so it appeared he was addicted to opioids, and Willow would then get custody, but Portia refused. Despite their personal problems, Curtis didn’t want to see Portia’s career end because of Heather Webber and Drew Cain, and Laura agreed to take what he’d told her into consideration when making her recommendation to the board. As he prepared to leave, Laura noted how, despite the turmoil, he and Portia had come together for a common goal, and she hoped they remembered that they were capable of working together if the baby turned out to be his. Since he missed out on raising Trina, Curtis replied, this baby felt like a second chance, and he just wanted to be the best father possible.

The Great Pretender

Discussing Willow’s acquittal with Elizabeth, Lucas commended his friend for the way she put herself on the line for Willow, and Liz confided that she was hoping they could all now move on with their lives. Lucas wondered when Willow was returning to work, and Liz joked that she looked forward to having the nurse back if Drew let her go back. As they talked about how controlling Drew was when it came to his wife, a call came into the nurse’s hub, alerting Liz that a critical patient was about to be brought in.

That patient turned out to be Drew. Willow fed Liz a fabricated version of events, telling her that even though Drew had a horrible headache, they’d celebrated her acquittal with champagne, but after one sip, Drew began slurring his words, then collapsed. As Liz consoled her “upset” friend with a hug, Willow asked if she had gotten him help in time. Later, Willow continued her distraught wife act when Nina arrived with Kai, who had driven her there from the cafe. Stepping aside to call Drew’s assistant, Kai watched Willow sob to her mother about how scared she was and recalled Trina’s conclusion that Willow had every intention of killing Drew the night of the shooting.

Stepping off the elevator, Tracy came across Nina and Willow, and joined them and Kai to wait for word on Drew. Approaching the group, Lucas shared that his initial diagnosis was that Drew had suffered a massive stroke. Dr. Jones cautiously told Drew’s family that while it would be a while before they knew if he’d recover, some stroke patients could have impairments afterwards, and Willow cried over the possibility of Drew having limited mobility. After the update from Lucas, Kai went to make more phone calls, and Willow excused herself to go to the restroom. Alone with Tracy, Nina suggested they stay optimistic for Willow’s sake, but Tracy chuckled that the idea of her nephew potentially being a vegetable was karma finally coming for Drew.

Down the hall, Willow took the syringe she’d used to inject Drew out of her purse and surreptitiously dumped it into one of the hospital’s needle containers.
