General Hospital Fave Kin Shriner: ‘I Basically Couldn’t Walk’ After Botched Surgery

Comments

Soap veteran Kin Shriner (Scott, General Hospital) has had multiple foot surgeries over the years, but it seems that the operation he had last summer left him in pretty bad shape. In a video shared to X (formerly Twitter) on June 30, the actor — who was last seen on GH in August 2024 — updated his followers on the long road to recovery he’s been traveling since undergoing a procedure in July 2024.

A Foot Ahead

The actor opened up his video message by explaining that a year ago, he was under the care of “some arrogant surgeon” for a surgical procedure. “And he botched it!” Shriner declared. “So, for six months, I basically couldn’t walk.”

At that point, Shriner explained, his good friend, GH alum John Stamos (ex-Blackie), stepped up and recommended a podiatrist he himself had used at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. From there, Shriner noted, the doctor “redid” the original procedure. Ever since, the actor added, he has been working hard at his recovery from his home base in Florida. “I’m down here at old Fort Lauderdale, rehabbing this foot every day,” he shared. “Every day, so that I can get mobile.”

Shriner has been dedicated to his workouts at the local Powerhouse Gym franchise, revealing that he even gets attendance records to prove the time he’s putting into his recovery. “You gotta get it back!” he mused of his mobility. “Something goes wrong, you fix it. Or you try to. Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to.”

Foot issues have plagued the daytime star — who among other soap credits has appeared on Young and Restless as Harrison Bartlett, As The World Turns as Keith Morrissey, and Bold and Beautiful as Dr. Brian Carey — for quite some time. As some viewers may remember, back in the summer of 2019, Scotty used a knee scooter to zip around Port Charles when the mobility aid was written into the show as his portrayer recovered from surgery.

Six months post-op, Shriner told Soaps In Depth that he was fully healed. “The pains, those are gone,” he reported. “They say it takes about six months before you forget about it.” Even the actor’s surgeon at the time was impressed with how the actor’s recovery was going. “Every time he takes an X-ray, he then likes to take a selfie with my foot because he’s very pleased with his work,” the actor stated with a chuckle. “It was a success. He stuck a couple screws on the top of my foot, and I’ve had to slowly rehab it at the gym. Case closed!”

Today, Shriner has a positive attitude as he continues his recovery after the past 12 months of ups and downs. “I will be mobile soon,” he concluded his video message. “Very soon.”
