Exclusive First Look: Watch Jon Lindstrom Make His Beyond The Gates Debut

Introductions Necessary: Jon Lindstrom begins his new role as Joey Armstrong on Beyond The Gates on Friday, March 7.
The time has finally come for veteran daytime star Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/ex-Ryan, General Hospital) to make his much-anticipated debut as Joey Armstrong on the new CBS soap Beyond The Gates. The actor, who in addition to his long career on GH has appeared on As the World Turns as Craig Montgomery and the syndicated sudser Rituals as Brady Chapin, has racked up for Daytime Emmy nominations over the course of his years in daytime (three for Outstanding Lead Actor, one for Outstanding Supporting Actor), and is a longtime friend and collaborator of BTG’s creator/head writer/showrunner, Michele Val Jean.
During a Zoom interview with Soap Opera Digest and other members of the soap media, Lindstrom described his new alter ego “as a bit of an entrepreneur in a kind way. Joey comes from the other side of the tracks. He has fought his way up in many ways, but he’s never lost his charm. But Joey runs a casino, which, if you’ve ever been inside a casino, you know a casino is kind of like what a bar is to an alcoholic. So, people can get into a lot of trouble around Joey, and Joey doesn’t like trouble. He knows how to end trouble, but he doesn’t like trouble.”
Digest has obtained an exclusive first look at the scene where the audience will first meet Joey, the man who runs the local casino. As viewers know, the character of Doug McBride has a gambling problem and those he’s turned to in the past no longer want to help dig him out of the hole he finds himself in. He thinks he can talk his way out of his problem — but he’ll soon learn that he may have opened a bigger can of worms than he could ever have imagined.
Time To Pay The Piper
In the clip, which you can watch below, Doug (Jason Graham) gets into Joey’s car. “Doug McBride,” announces Joey. “Joey Armstrong,” responds a nervous Doug as he continues, “I’ve seen you around the club.” Joey takes a moment to explain the way he works. “I like to take private meetings in my car. You ever read that book, The Lincoln Lawyer,” Doug responds in the negative, which surprises Joey. “No? Michael Connelly is a genius. You should check it out.” Doug takes in his words and seems at a loss, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Joey as he says, “You look a little nervous there, McBride. Is everything all right?” Doug takes a breath and answers, “I’m thinking maybe I made a mistake. Randy didn’t think we should meet. I think maybe I should have listened to him.” He makes a move to leave the car. “Maybe,” poses Joey, before adding, “Or maybe we should talk it out, find out if you got into the right car or if you should hitch another ride home.” See it all for yourself below.
