Eva LaRue’s Real-Life Stalker Nightmare Subject Of New Documentary

Comments

Soap star Eva LaRue (Natalia, General Hospital) will be the subject of an upcoming documentary detailing the harrowing true story of how the actress and her daughter, Kaya Callahan, were terrorized for 12 years by a stalker before he was finally caught and sentenced to prison. My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story is currently in production and slated to premiere in late 2025 on the streaming service Paramount+.

“This documentary shares a deeply painful time in my and my daughter’s life—an experience shared by nearly 13.5 million stalking victims each year,” LaRue told Deadline. “Stalking is a global crisis, often involving violence and lasting psychological trauma. Yet many victims are denied justice due to weak laws, limited awareness, and the challenge of proving these crimes. I hope my story raises awareness and helps drive meaningful change in how authorities protect victims and pursue justice.”

Dark Side Of Fame

A teenage beauty queen, LaRue started out as a model, and became a soap star when she played Dr. Maria Santos on All My Children (1993-97 and 2002-05; she also reprised the role in 2010 for the soap’s 40th anniversary and again in 2011 as the show wrapped up its run on ABC). The actress went on to star as Natalia Boa Vista on the prime-time series CSI: Miami from 2005-12. It was during this time that her fame revealed a dark side as threatening letters began arriving at her home in 2007, signed by “Freddie Krueger,” the villain from the Nightmare on Elm Street horror movie series. Things escalated when LaRue’s daughter with ex-husband John Callahan (ex-Edmund Grey, AMC, et al) began receiving her own letters in 2015. The stalker would also contact Kaya’s school, claiming to be her father, there to pick her up.

In 2019, the FBI was able to use DNA from the envelopes to track the genetic information through a database to narrow their search down to one man: James David Rogers. The Ohio resident was arrested and pleaded guilty to two counts of mailing threatening communications, one count of threats by interstate communications, and two counts of stalking. He was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison in September 2022.

LaRue continued working, appearing in shows like Fuller House and Criminal Minds as well as movies like A Killer Walks Amongst Us and Urban Cowboy. She was then cast as Celeste Rosales on the CBS soap Young and Restless in 2019, a role that earned her the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Performer in 2020. The actress currently stars as Natalia Rogers-Ramirez on GH, making her debut in 2024.

My Nightmare Stalker: The Eva LaRue Story is being produced by Forte Entertainment and See it Now Studios, and will feature personal interviews with the actress as she recalls the emotional toll that the ordeal took on her and her family as she struggled to protect them from an unknown threat.
