Conley Waxes Nostalgic for Vegas

Darlene Conley used to visit Sally Spectra in Las Vegas, but Sally’s moved away and Conley stays away…for the sake of her wallet!

“You can’t take me to any of those venues anymore, because I’m a real gambler,” Conley confides. “I’m a horse player and a dice thrower. I liked it so much that I’d do it all the time for a while.”

Though Conley keeps her distance these days, the craps tables remains near and dear to this spitfire’s heart. “That’s where people go crazy,” she enthuses. “You come in and everyone’s like zombies feeding the one-armed bandit [a.k.a. slot machine] or they’re playing 21 very quietly or it’s baccarat, where you can’t hear a thing. Go to the dice table and it’s, ‘Lucky 7! Come on!’ They’re noisy and they pound on the table.”

Back when Conley did make Vegas a regular haunt, she knew just where to stay. “It’s the hotel where they had a magnificent wax figure,” she glows, referring to the Venetian Hotel, where Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum boasted a likeness of Sally Spectra that is now vamping in Amsterdam. “It was great when they unveiled that statue. It was an honor, because no character in soap opera had ever been done. What they look for is someone where there’s an instant recognition and Sally is instant recognition.”

The added bonus? Standing for the wax figure. “They sent three guys from London to photograph every inch of me. That was fun!” Conley says, a twinkle in her eye. “They did a superb job.”
