Can Luna Be Redeemed on Bold and Beautiful? Should The Show Even Try To Rehabilitate Her?
When Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada) first appeared on Bold and Beautiful, she was an innocent young woman working as an intern at Forrester Creations. But over time, she turned into quite a schemer, not to mention that she actually went to prison for murdering two people! Even after narrowly escaping death, her obsessive behavior still hasn’t changed, leading many viewers to wonder if Luna can be redeemed. Of course, as any soap fan knows, in daytime, anything is possible!
In the Beginning
Luna first appeared on B&B in the September 13, 2023, episode as a Forrester intern who soon began dating R.J. and turning down the advances of Zende. Things took a turn when Luna popped some mints belonging to her mother, Poppy, that turned out to be drugs. After believing that she’d slept with R.J., Luna was horrified to wake up in bed with Zende.

But it turned out that was actually just the beginning of Luna’s crazy schemes. She later confessed that she’d grown bored with R.J. and had purposefully slept with Zende. While holding Steffy captive, Luna also revealed that she’d killed her supposed father, Tom Starr — as well as Hollis, who got too close to the truth — and faked the DNA test that said Bill was her biological dad!
The More Things Change…
Though jailed for her crimes, Luna somehow managed to convince Bill to let her move in with him under house arrest, and he even got the charges against her dropped entirely. While this would have been a good time to make a fresh start, Luna instead learned that Finn was her real father, and in her determination to be part of his family, she attempted to kill Steffy to get her out of the way. In the ensuing chaos, Luna and Liam both shot each other, and while he survived, she appeared to have died.
But Li had actually saved Luna’s life and brought her home to nurse her back to health, believing her granddaughter deserved another chance. Unfortunately, as soon as Luna regained consciousness, she resumed her obsession with Will Spencer and got him extremely drunk so she could crawl into his bed and force him to have sex with her against his will. Now, people know that Luna isn’t really dead, and she’s also claiming to be pregnant with Will’s baby!

Second Chances
When Luna managed to wriggle out of prison with Bill’s help, the soap could have taken that opportunity to send the character into a new direction and have her try to make amends for her many crimes. Instead, they doubled down on the psycho and had her attempt to murder Steffy again.
Then, after Luna came out of her coma, it was an even better excuse for the character to turn over a new leaf. A brush with death would be the perfect time for someone to reevaluate their life and the decisions that led them to that point. However, she didn’t, and instead, slipped right back into lying, scheming, and manipulating those around her. Luna really has taken after her grandmother, the infamous Sheila Carter, who has quite the criminal rap sheet of her own.
On the one hand, Sheila is proof that someone can remain a viable character on the canvas even with a ridiculously checkered history. But on the other hand, her constantly egging Luna on and supporting her pursuit of Will hasn’t helped at all. Sheila really shouldn’t have been shocked to learn that Luna ended up raping Will — given the young woman’s history, what did she really think was going to happen when she encouraged her granddaughter to go after the guy? And calling Luna’s Spencer baby a “get out of jail free card” is only making things worse.

What Next?
Given that Sheila has actually managed to make a new life in Los Angeles and even found love again with Deacon, it’s entirely possible that Luna could eventually do the same. While having a doctor (not Grace!) discover that Luna is suffering from a brain tumor could explain away her irrational and obsessive behavior, that’s the easy way out.
Soaps are nothing without villains, but if they are meant to stick around long-term, their actions need to be entertaining, not so horrific that fans demand punishment. Luna would make a great antagonist for B&B’s younger set if she could just rein it in a little. With multiple murders and a rape under her belt, Luna would appear to have already gone too far — make that way too far — but it’s still possible that viewers could come to accept the character if she could actually show some remorse for her actions. Perhaps her pregnancy, and coming face to face with the reality that she will not only need to care for an innocent new life but mold its future and instill values, could be the jolt she needs to resolve to become a better person and make amends for her horrific deeds.
Another option would be to send Luna off the canvas for a period of time to someplace where she can get the help she so desperately needs. Then again, since Taylor is a licensed therapist, why not let the shrink start some sessions with Luna so viewers can watch her character transform on camera? Then, the healing can finally begin, and Luna can start acting more like a regular person… with maybe a little mild scheming every now and then to keep things from getting too boring!
