“Today, after work, I’m having surgery — and I’m calling it exactly what it is,” began the star’s caption, which appeared alongside a photo of herself at the BTG studio. “Reclaiming my uterus. 🤍.” Duplaix continued, “This is a PSA. Please read it.”
The actress went on to explain: “Four years ago a doctor told me my only option was a full hysterectomy. I said no. I waited — and that waiting came with real suffering. Heavy bleeding. Uncertainty. A blood transfusion. Regular iron infusions. Managing with anxiety and stress, just pushing through. But I kept going. [Through] the love of a sister friend I found @coachgessie and her @thedetoxnow program, who helped me support my body naturally through the process. And she connected me with a gynecologist who looked deeper and found a polyp, the biggest culprit — something that can be removed non-invasively, without taking my uterus.”
Duplaix urged, “Women — please hear me. Fibroids, polyps & cyst grow inside us with no warning and no clear reason. Our bodies are still being researched and studied. Medicine does not always have all the answers, and the first answer you’re given is not always the right one.”
She then advised, “Go to your gynecologist regularly. Ask questions. Get second opinions. Do not let anyone make a permanent decision about your body before every option has been explored. You deserve that. Your body deserves that. Today I take mine back. 🤍🙏🏼”
Duplaix’s post was “liked” by several of her co-stars, including Marquita Goings (Hayley), Mike Manning (Smitty) and Colby Nixon (Kat) as well as Young and Restless star Valarie Pettiford (Amy), who wrote, “Sending boat loads of love and healing light ♥️👑🙏🏽.”
Uterine fibroids and polyps are both common, typically noncancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus. Fibroids are made of muscle tissue and can grow within the uterine wall, on its surface, or inside the cavity, sometimes causing symptoms like heavy periods, pelvic pain, or pressure; they affect up to 80% of women by age 50. Polyps, on the other hand, are small, soft growths that form in the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) and are often linked to irregular bleeding, with an estimated 25% to 30% of women experiencing them over the course of their lifetime.
Soap Opera Digest sends its best wishes to Duplaix for a speedy recovery.
