“If you don’t cut this kidney out of me, I swear to God, I’ll do it myself,” threatened drunken, knife-wielding hooligan Luke, but Keith wrestled it away from him — which looked really bad when Holden showed up. They cleared up the misunderstanding quickly, though, and Holden even apologized to Keith and reprimanded his son for being a drunken, knife-wielding hooligan. The whole ruckus just made Keith want to leave for California sooner, and Lily was forced to agree. She broke the news to adorable Faith and Natalie, and when Holden came home they discussed the damage all this insanity is doing to their kids. “It’s time to stop. If you’re not going to walk away from Keith, then you’ve got to walk away from us,” he said, as the messenger arrived with new divorce papers, which he promptly signed.

Emily was having a black-and-white nightmares and flashbacks about being with Paul on the bluff, in which he promptly disappeared after she said her vows, the Hal showed up, saying that he knows what she did and bringing them into color as she looked at her bloodstained hands. She woke up to Susan, who wanted her to talk to Hal, which Em instantly nixed, because she doesn’t want anyone “judging her.” That’s when Tom arrived with Daniel, but he didn’t have much sympathy. He reminded her that his grandson lived and died without his knowledge, partly because of her. She apologized profusely, blaming Paul, and Tom (awesomely, as usual) heard her out. Emily then explained to Danny that she and Paul broke up, barely containing her blubbering. Daniel and Susan then pointed out that she was missing an earring. She then lost some of Tom’s good will when she asked Danny if he wanted a ride to school, without consulting his father first. She then apparently dumped her son off at school, because the next time we saw her, she was scrambling across the bluff looking for her lost diamonds. Susan tried to negotiate for Emily, and Tom promised to reconsider when Em starts making positive changes in her life. That’s when he got a call from Hal: Paul has disappeared.

Meg demanded one meeeellion dollars in exchange for helping Paul. Seeing as he was about to collapse again, he didn’t even try to barter … but he still managed to banter! He complained about her bedside manner and joshed that she’d like him if she got to know him, and as improbable as this is (again, considering his gaping chest wound), this mood of Paul’s just makes us chuckle. He kept pushing her until she was forced to admit that she’s been caught, so she’s lost Dusty and her job. He seemed genuinely sorry and grateful for her help, but she responded by turning the tables and pushing him into a somewhat sad confession that he and Emily “ended things.” She had no problem guessing (with some delight) that Em’s the shooter. He threatened Meg that the deal was off if she tattles, because it’s all his fault that Emily shot him and she deserves another chance. Furthermore, he wants to just disappear once he’s healed. “I’m just sorry that Emily had such lousy aim,” she replied coldly to his self pity. She took off, as Emily, having found her earring, got lost in a thick fog and wandered up to the cabin — where saw Paul through the window and totally flipped out again.

Dusty was grinning like a lovesick fool at a photo of Jennifer when she came in from putting Johnny down for the night. They reminisced about their early flirtation, when she shamelessly threw herself at him. She assumed that he hated her then; he just didn’t trust her. “Now, aside from Johnny, I trust you more than anybody,” he said and we’re not sure if he means the baby or his adoptive dad John Dixon. If it’s the latter, way to go with the shout-out! Anyway, she feels the same, and asked him to stay. After exchanging “I love you”s, they had an super-extended love scene (the likes of which are usually reserved for Matie) to Faith Hill’s “Breathe.” Afterwards, he even went and tended to her fussy son, which brought her to tears.
