Apprentice 3 Update #12

Comments

In the pre-tax day episode of THE APPRENTICE on April 14, the teams were taxed as much as usual…but working non-stop to the last minute gave one candidate her finest moment.

Kendra, the sole remaining veteran Magna candidate still on that team, became the team’s Project Manager, and Chris, the only original Net Worther (no, he never switched), led his all-guy team (yes, when Trump had them pick a Magna candidate they chose Bren).

This week’s task: Create a press kit/brochure for Pontiac’s snazzy new Solstice car. Simple enough? Not when you only have a day. As the guys predicted they were a sure bet against two women and Craig, Kendra must have felt she was in The Matrix when Tana ominously donned huge, Trinity-like dark sunglasses and Craig/Morpheus got on Kendra’s case.

At their photo session, Chris and Alex didn’t take the shots they needed to, which stalled Bren’s creative engine. Kendra fought to prove herself while fighting her teammates, as they fought to stay awake…and then left. So throwing herself into a productive, solo all-nighter (perfect for “Tax Eve”), Kendra created a brochure that practically looked like a car. She woke up her teammates and compared her experience to sex.

At Net Worth’s presentation of its capable but bland press kit, the Pontiac folks scoffed at the images of skimpily dressed beauties flanking the car, and the lack of detailed and interior shots. Plus, presenter Chris called it “The Solster Roadster,” then corrected himself.

When Magna hit the track, Tana started talking right away, in her goofy-corporate way: “We’d like to thank you for this opportunity.” But Keanu…er, Kendra grabbed the wheel and floored the Pontiac reps with the stunning kit while articulately driving her point home.

Mr. Trump soon found out that the Magna trio nailed the car’s emotion and the NW guys decidedly didn’t. Magna was deemed a “slam-dunk” winner, and not only did the team fittingly play basketball with the Knicks in Madison Square Garden, but Pontiac will use the campaign. Kendra was a heroine, and thanks to her exemption next week, a lock for the Final Four.

Behind the boardroom doors, there was a first: Mr. Trump consoled the firee. Who was crying. And was…a guy: Chris. Alex and Bren stood up to him, then took him down (and Chris helped, by saying, “I don’t understand how that team was more creative…and they were.”). Before the sobbing Chris could leave, The Donald brought him over to his side of the table, praised his potential and advised him to eschew the tobacco-chewing and watch his temper (his April 10 arrest for disorderly conduct proves The Donald’s advice fell on deaf ears). As an inspired Chris — who certainly nailed the game’s emotion — sat in his cab, he thanked everyone on THE APPRENTICE for the opportunity, and meant it.

Three people remain in Magna, and two in Net Worth. Check this space next Friday, April 22, for the latest scoop on NBC’s hit reality show.

SOAP OPERA WEEKLY’s Predictions for the Final Four (two are still in):
Alex: His theology and Latin degrees alone reveal his impressive mind, and his solid speaking — and lobbying — skills will please Mr. Trump.

Brian: He’s got the creativity and business acumen, having made a million from selling glow-in-the-dark necklaces.

Kendra: This entrepreneur and talk radio show host may prove to be one of the most resourceful and dedicated players.

Tara: Watch this one — her NYC know-how and heavy management experience should keep her on the successful side.

The dark horses: lively Angie and tough Bren!
