General Hospital Preempted Nationally Today: Get the Details on the New Schedule
Fans looking to find out what happened after Monday’s shocking cliffhanger will now have to wait another day for answers, as General Hospital has been nationally preempted due to breaking news coverage of a White House press conference. The episode previously scheduled to air on Tuesday, January 20, will now air on Wednesday, January 21, and all subsequent episodes will also be bumped one day as well.
The Waiting Is the Hardest Part
“Today’s episode of GH is being interrupted by a press conference, which is beyond our control,” ABC executive Nathan Varni shared on Twitter/X around 2:30 p.m. ET. “We don’t yet have a duration, but we’re monitoring closely and will share update as soon as possible. Thanks so much for your patience.”
Then, ten minutes later, the exec shared the bad news with viewers. “Heads up, GH fans,” he wrote. “Due to ongoing live news coverage, today’s episode will now air tomorrow.”
Because today’s show did air in Canada, viewers there will not have a new episode on Wednesday so as to bring them back in line with the U.S. scheduling change. “Our Canadian viewers will see an encore tomorrow,” Varni confirmed. American viewers in time zones where the news coverage has concluded before GH would normally air should also be seeing a rerun episode on Tuesday.
Since the preemption was national and there was no new episode of GH airing anywhere in the United States, there will be no new episode uploaded to Hulu or ABC.com later in the evening for streaming. But fans don’t need to worry about missing out on any of the drama because the episode will air on Wednesday in its entirety.
And with the Monday episode ending with quite the storyline bang — Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) threw both Drew (Cameron Mathison) and viewers for a major loop by jabbing him in the neck with a syringe and injecting him with something that made him collapse onto the floor, fans are champing at the bit for the next episode to find out what happens. Unfortunately, that wait will be just a little bit longer.
