Vernee Watson was happy to put her trust in GH Wardrobe Director Shawn Reeves when it came to creating Stella’s on-air look. “Shawn picked out some really cool stuff for me, really nice things. But I don’t care about clothes, so to me, I don’t really care what I have on! It’s not that I look like a bum, but I’m not into fashion. She’s not overdone and we’re going for the comfort; I’m not in any pumps or anything like that. I’m an older woman! I actually brought my own shoes in. He was telling me, ‘People look at our show and they notice even the shoes.’ I said, ‘Oh, no, then you’re not going to let me wear these? I got them from Paris!’ So he let me wear them, my little flats. I think he is dressing me well. He is working the wardrobe! You keep the same thing on for days, but I’m comfortable in the clothes. He had me try on 25 or 30 outfits, so he has a lot to choose from. I haven’t had anything that he’s given me that I haven’t liked. But when it comes to clothes, I don’t really care. I’ve always been like that, though. My kids are like, ‘Can you change those sweats?’ ‘Ooh, she has on jeans today, Mommy, wow!’ ” She is equally unfussy about her hair and makeup. “I don’t have to go to hair [to get styled for the camera]. I am concerned about what I look like on camera, because I don’t want to misrepresent or have people say, ‘Why doesn’t she do something with her hair? What is wrong with her?’ So, I got that together. I learned a long time ago about my hair because I have a lot of hair on my head and I don’t like people messing with my hair — I’m tender-headed, so I got me a hairstyle that works and I don’t have to sit in the hair chair, and it looks clean and shiny and all those things.”
