Young and Restless Rewind: Summer Newman’s Life In Pictures

Summer Newman has had a dramatic life on Young and Restless pretty much from birth! The character was played by a series of twins as an infant, then Samantha Bailey as a little girl, Lindsay Bushman as a teen, Hunter King as a young woman, and most recently, Allison Lanier held the role (find out about her exit here). From being born in an elevator to fearing she was dating her half brother to standing on her own two feet, it’s been quite a journey for Nick and Phyllis’s headstrong daughter! As Lanier exits the role, Soap Opera Digest takes a look back at some of her most memorable moments.

    When Summer was born in 2006, there was a bit of a question as to whether Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) or Nick was the father but after a DNA test indicated that the child was a Newman, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Nick were wed. However, it was Jack who helped the redhead give birth to her bouncing baby girl while they were trapped in an elevator during an ice storm!

    While still just a baby in 2007, Summer, her mother, and Fenmore Baldwin were abducted by notorious psychopath Sheila Carter (who at this point had undergone plastic surgery to make herself look like Phyllis!), but thankfully, Lauren Baldwin (Tracey E. Bergman) was able to thwart the villain's plans and rescue everyone.

    Summer (then Samantha Bailey) has a very severe allergy to peanuts, which landed her in the hospital in 2009 after demented Patty Williams purposely ate some peanut butter cookies and gave the little girl a kiss.

    When a suddenly older Summer (then-Hunter King) was crushing on Kyle Abbott (then-Hartley Sawyer) in 2013, things got seriously awkward: A new DNA test seemed to prove that Jack was her biological father, making them half siblings! Thankfully, it was later revealed that Sharon had tampered with the test, meaning that Summer and Kyle are not related by blood.

    In 2014, Summer fell so hard for Austin Travers (Matthew Atkinson) that she went on the run with him after he shot Paul Williams. Once he turned himself in, she got him a lawyer and even married the guy so she wouldn't have to testify against him. The union was short-lived, however, as he was soon murdered.

    Despite everyone's warnings, Summer fell head over heels for Luca Santori (Miles Gaston Villanueva) in 2016, not realizing he was just using her to get ahead at Newman Enterprises. She even accepted the hunk's proposal, but Luca was arrested at their engagement party and his crimes were exposed.

    When Summer returned to Genoa City in 2018, Phyllis was in a relationship with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), so Summer decided to make trouble for her mom by flirting with the guy. After Billy learned Phyllis had an affair with Nick, he slept with Summer, later revealing he'd done so in order to hurt both women.

    Kyle (then Michael Mealor) was with Lola Rosales when Summer came home again in 2019, so she did whatever she could to get him back. Including forcing Kyle to marry her for at least a year in exchange for donating part of her liver to save Lola's life!

    Summer tried to use Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) to make Kyle jealous in 2019. Eventually, she and Kyle got back together and teamed up to ruin Theo's career at Jabot!

    In 2021, Summer found herself clashing with Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope), who was angling to take her job at Jabot. Summer kept the redhead in line by digging up dirt about her scandalous past in Los Angeles, ruining Sally's budding relationship with Jack in the process.

    Summer's relationship with Kyle finally seemed to be on solid ground in 2021 — but then Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) showed up in town with her husband, Ashland, and it was revealed that "their" son, Harrison, was actually Kyle's kid! Worse, Tara forced Summer to take a job in Italy by threatening never to let Kyle see his child again.

    After Kyle moved to Italy and the couple tied the knot off-camera, they returned to Genoa City, where Kyle and Summer (Allison Lanier) renewed their vows in a ceremony attended by family and friends in 2022.

    Rocked by Phyllis's sudden death in 2023, Summer was stunned — and relieved — to learn that her mother had only faked her demise. But Phyllis having done so to frame Kyle's mother, Diane, and Summer keeping quiet about the fact that her mom wasn't actually deceased proved too much for Kyle and Summer's young marriage to bear.

    Later that year, Summer's friendship with Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) blossomed into romance. But when the detective investigated her brother, Daniel, for murdering Heather in 2024, it drove a wedge between them.

    When Kyle hired Claire Newman (Hayley Erin) to be Harrison's new nanny in 2024, Summer wasn't exactly thrilled as she didn't trust her newly-discovered cousin. And though she tried to put on a brave face when Kyle and Claire started dating, it was clear that jealousy was eating her up inside.

    In 2025, Summer complimented Diane (Susan Walters) on the Abbott mansion refresh before saying an emotional farewell to Harrison (Redding Munsell). With Chelsea and Sally both leaving Marchetti, Summer had to go to Europe to look for replacement designers. When Kyle revealed that he and Claire were moving in together, she asked him to wait until she returned so they could tell their son that news together. But when might that be?
