THE CITY, LOVING’s spin-off, debuted
on ABC on November 13, with an original
cast that included Laura Wright (Ally, now

and Morgan Fairchild (Sydney). The
show was created by LOVING Co-Creator
Agnes Nixon and its head writers, Barbara
Esensten and James Harmon Brown.
Robert Kelker-Kelly was axed from DAYS OF OUR LIVES to make room for the
return of the original Bo, Peter Reckell.... Melissa Reeves quit, so Jennifer was
recast with Stephanie Cameron.... Austin Peck succeeded the exiting Patrick
Muldoon as Austin; and Lisa Rinna (Billie), Deborah Adair (Kate) and Thaao
Penghlis (Tony, now Andre) wrapped up.... Possessed by the devil, Marlena
wreaked havoc; John performed
a successful exorcism, earning his
release from the priesthood.... Though
the baby she was carrying was really
Lucas’s, Sami interrupted the Austin/
Carrie nuptials and announced that
she was preggers by the groom....
Vivian tricked Victor into marrying her,
and Jennifer said, “I do,” to Peter,
while the Bo/Billie union was nullified

Kim Zimmer (Reva), Michael O’Leary (Rick) and Lisa
Brown (Nola) returned to GUIDING LIGHT; Rebecca
Budig (now Hayden, GH) made her soap debut as
Michelle; Larry Gates made his final appearance as
H.B.; the role of Eleni was recast with Jennifer Roszell
when Melina Kanakaredes exited; the show said goodbye
to Jean Carol (Nadine), Marcy Walker (Tangie),
Hilary Edson (Eve), Barbara Crampton (Mindy), Monti
Sharp (David) and Rachel Miner (Michelle); and Frank
Beaty (Brent) and Marshall Hilliard (Hart) joined the
Springfield ranks.... Alan found presumed-dead Reva
living as “Rebecca” in Amish country.... Marriage
licenses were granted to Matt and Vanessa, Holly and

(who returned from the dead in the guise of “Marian

replaced by Michael Laibson, and after short
head-writing runs by Stephen Demorest and Douglas

LOVING axed Co-Head Writers Laurie McCarthy and Addie Walsh; James
Harmon Brown and Barbara Esensten took over.... Jane Elliot (GH’s Tracy)
worked behind the scenes as a producer.... As the show raced toward its finale,
cast changes abounded: Robert Tyler (Trucker), Paul Anthony Stewart (Casey),
Lauren-Marie Taylor (Stacey), Jean LeClerc
(Jeremy), Wesley Addy (Cabot), Augusta
Dabney (Isabelle), Dennis Parlato (Clay), Lisa
Peluso (Ava), Christine Tudor (Gwyneth),
Amelia Heinle (Steffi, now Y&R’s Victoria),
and Elizabeth Mitchell (Dinah Lee) were written
out, while Darnell Williams (Jacob) and

of characters were killed off: Casey was shot
dead, then “the Loving Murders”, orchestrated
by an off-her-rocker Gwyneth, claimed the
lives of Stacey, Clay, Curtis, Cabot, Isabelle
and Jeremy. Gwyn then committed suicide....
Angie married Charles but fell for Jacob,
a dead ringer for her late hubby, Jesse....
After a 12-year run, the show went off the air on
November 10 (and was rebranded as THE CITY).

twins Frankie and Leslie, she was shot dead.... Viki’s hubby, Sloan, passed
away.... David wed Tina, then was forced by Viki’s alter Jean to dump her and
wed Dorian.... Marty fell for Patrick.... Erika Slezak (Viki) took home the Daytime
Emmy for Lead Actress, and Roger Howarth won the Digest Award for Younger
Lead Actor.... Josh Griffith exited as Michael Malone’s co-head writer.
