Kate Mansi Books New Role After General Hospital Exit
Kate Mansi, who left General Hospital earlier this year in her Daytime Emmy-nominated role as Kristina Corinthos-Davis, has been cast in a prestigious new project. From September 27 through October 17, she will star in the Arizona Theatre Company’s production of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof.
Kate Mansi Returns to the Stage
Proof tells the story of Catherine, a brilliant young woman who had been the caretaker for her late father, a math professor whose life had been destroyed by mental illness. Part mystery, part psychological family drama, Catherine wrestles with the fear of inheriting her father’s illness while also trying to prove that she, and not her father, authored an advanced math proof discovered among his belongings.
In a joint Instagram post with Mansi, the Arizona Theatre Company shared, “For Mansi, this role has been years in the making. She first connected with Catherine at 19, when she performed a monologue from Proof for a conservatory audition.”
While Mansi is best known for her work on GH and her prior, Daytime Emmy-winning run on Days of Our Lives as Abigail Deveraux DiMera, she is also an accomplished theater actress, with credits including If All The Sky Were Paper at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles, where she appeared with Academy Award-nominated actress Annette Bening. Her role in Proof marks her debut with the Tuscon-based Arizona Theatre Company.
Mansi, who took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2017, is not the first Daytime Emmy winner to portray the role of Catherine on stage: the late Anne Heche (ex-Vicky Hudson/Marley Love, Another World) was one of three actresses who played Catherine in Proof‘s original Broadway run.
In the 2005 film adaptation of the play, Academy Award winner Gwyneth Paltrow played Catherine.
