ALL MY CHILDREN marked its 15th anniversary.... Original cast member Kay Campbell (Kate) passed away in her sleep; Jean LeClerc (Jeremy) and Kate Collins (Natalie) debuted; Laurence Lau (Greg), Hugo Napier (Mike) and Mark LaMura (Mark) exited.... Palmer divorced Daisy and tied the knot with gold digger Cynthia; Donna wed Benny; Erica mourned Mike Roy’s apparent demise; and Jesse cheated on Angie with chanteuse Yvonne.... Baddie Zach Grayson was murdered (by Marian in self-defense, though Daisy went to jail for a time).... Reporter Brooke went to jail for refusing to name a source in a sequence shot at Sing Sing prison.... Darnell Williams (Jesse) won the Lead Actor Daytime Emmy, and the show took home the writing prize.

Ellen Wheeler began playing Marley’s twin, Vicky, on ANOTHER WORLD, which also hired Tom Eplin (Jake) and Barbara Berjer (Bridget), while Charles Keating was out, then in, then out again as Carl.... Sam Hall and Gillian Spencer (ex-Daisy, AMC) became co-head writers, succeeding Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin.... Catlin and Sally wed.... Vicky fumed over Jake and Marley’s romance.... Cass wooed Kathleen.... Rachel was shot by Carl, who’d been aiming for Mac; Carl was then presumed drowned.

An AS THE WORLD TURNS casting bonanza saw the debuts of Martha Byrne (Lily), Finn Carter (Sierra), Benjamin Hendrickson (Hal), Jon Hensley (Holden), Julianne Moore (Frannie), Margaret Reed (Shannon), John Wesley Shipp (Douglas), Steven Weber (Kevin) and Kathleen Widdoes (Emma), while Christian J. LeBlanc (now YOUNG AND RESTLESS’s Michael) and Marisa Tomei checked out as Kirk and Marcy.... Douglas Marland began his storied run as head writer, replacing Susan Bedsow Horgan.... Lily dated Dusty and made the acquaintance of Lucinda’s new stable hand, Holden; Craig and Sierra fell in love; Bob and Kim finally said, “I do,” and a mysterious “admirer” began harrassing her. Catherine Hickland joined CAPITOL as Jenny.... Trey divorced Sloane and wed Kelly, while Sloane hooked up with Zed. Mark was shot on his and Clarissa’s wedding day.... Jarrett turned out to be a backfrom- the-dead Baxter.

John Aniston (Victor), Stephen Nichols (Steve), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) and Michael T. Weiss (Mike) began their DAYS OF OUR LIVES runs, while Bill Hayes (Doug) returned, and Joseph Mascolo (Stefano) and Andrew Masset (Larry) wrapped up.... Ken Corday joined his mother, Betty Corday, and Al Rabin as a co-EP.... Bo and Hope wed in England, while in Salem, vows were swapped by Tony and Anna, and Eugene and Calliope.... Kim and Shane fell in love.... Bo rescued wee Sami and Eric from kidnapper Stefano.... Hope became a cop.... The show swept the daytime categories at the Soap Opera Digest Awards; Peter Reckell (Bo, Lead Actor), Deidre Hall (Marlena, Lead Actress), Charles Shaughnessy (Shane, Male Newcomer) and Arleen Sorkin (Calliope, Female Newcomer) were among the winners.

Finola Hughes (Anna) and Kimberly McCullough (Robin) joined GENERAL HOSPITAL, which saw the departures of Peter Hansen (Lee), Susan Brown (Gail), Tristan Rogers (Robert, now Y&R’s Colin) and Emma Samms (Holly).... Anne Howard Bailey exited as head writer, replaced by Pat Falken Smith and Norma Monty (sister of EP Gloria Monty).... Scorpio’s marriage to Holly was challenged by the arrival of his ex-wife, Anna, and their daughter, Robin.... Luke and Laura welcomed son Lucky (whose name was not revealed at the time).... Bobbie nearly went down for the death of her husband, Brock, but his true killer (Ginny) was outed; she also bought the brownstone with Jake.... Tony married Tania.... Jimmy Lee wooed Celia away from Grant.... After Alan bedded a nurse, Sean caught Monica’s eye.

Charita Bauer, who began playing GUIDING LIGHT matriarch Bert in its radio days, succumbed to complications from diabetes; Lisa Brown (Nola), Michael Tylo (Quint) and Vincent Irizarry (Lujack, now DAYS’s Deimos) left; Gil Rogers debuted as Hawk; the part of Phillip, vacated by Grant Aleksander, was recast with John Bolger.... Ed’s fling with Claire resulted in baby Michelle.... Billy’s birth mother was revealed to be H.B.’s former mistress, Sally, making him Kyle Sampson’s half brother.... Mindy became Mrs. Kurt Corday, and Kyle wed Maeve (spurring Reva to attempt suicide).... Lujack was killed in an explosion after getting engaged to Beth.... Kim Zimmer (Reva) nabbed the Lead Actress Daytime Emmy, and Larry Gates (H.B.) was honored as Supporting Actor. LOVING’s original head writer, Douglas Marland, ceded his position to Agnes Nixon.... Bryan Cranston (Doug) and James Kiberd (Mike) exited.... Jack learned that he was the bio son of Dane Hammond and, despite loving Stacey, wed Ava, who was pregnant; she delivered a stillborn baby, but passed off another tot as Jack’s.... Evil Jonathan returned from the dead and took over the life of his mild-mannered brother, Keith. ONE LIFE TO LIVE said good-bye to original cast member Ellen Holly (Carla); Andrea Evans was back as Tina and Roscoe Born began terrorizing Llanview as Mitch.... Learning that Tina was her half sister sent Viki into a tailspin (and sparked the return of her alternate personality, Niki).... Delila gave birth to Rafe and Samantha’s daughter, Sammi.... The show shot on location in Venice, where Asa was kidnapped.

RITUALS aired its last episode on September 6, four days before its first anniversary. Yasmine Bleeth (Ryan) and Christian Slater (D.J.) joined RYAN’S HOPE, while John Gabriel (Seneca), Scott Holmes (Dave) and Corbin Bernsen (Ken) exited.... Pat Falken Smith was replaced as head writer by the team of Millee Taggert and Tom King.... Siobhan and Max married, as did pregnancy-faking Maggie and Tom.... Ryan fell for Rick, then D.J.

SANTA BARBARA welcomed Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) and Robin Mattson (Heather, GH) as Julia and Gina, respectively; Tricia Cast (later Y&R’s Nina) made her daytime debut as Christy; Harley Kozak joined as Mary.... Mary-Ellis Bunim replaced Jeffrey Hayden as co-EP.... Kelly and Joe tied the knot.... Sophia was revealed to be alive and Channing’s killer; C.C. learned that he was not the bio dad of Channing — Lionel was.... Cruz and Eden had multiple broken engagements.... Serial killer Peter offed a string of Kelly look-alikes and Kelly’s hubby, Joe, before dying himself.... C.C. divorced Gina, who had bedded his son, Mason.... Julia came to town to look after sis Augusta, who had been blinded. SEARCH FOR TOMORROW’s Hogan and Liza fell in love.... Sunny attempted suicide.... Gary Tomlin was back as head writer..... The show’s production relocated to EDGE OF NIGHT’s former studio.

Don Diamont (Bill, B&B) joined Y&R as Brad.... Ashley reeled from the discovery that she was sired by Dina’s lover Brent Davis (who died from a liver disease), not John; Katherine showed John incriminating pictures of Jill with another guy (but doctored them so that he couldn’t identify the fella — Jack!), which prompted John to divorce Jill.... Nikki and Victor’s marriage was tested by his bond with Ashley and hers with Jack....Y&R nabbed the Outstanding Daytime Drama Emmy.
