James Patrick Stuart Returns To GH As Valentin – And Brennan's In Trouble!

James Patrick Stuart, who has played Valentin Cassadine off and on since 2016, popped up at the end of General Hospital‘s January 28 episode. In the scene, Valentin tracked down Brennan to a spa in Baden Baden, where his nemesis was clad in a robe, lying on a massage table. He assumed one of his many accents as he crept into the room and offered Brennan a hot towel. But, as he tightened the cords in his hands and looked down upon Brennan, it seemed like he was on a mission to kill the man, not knead away the tension from his muscles!

As GH viewers know, Valentin fled Port Charles back in July 2024 (with his daughter, Charlotte, in tow) to elude capture by federal authorities. He was last spotted in December, when Lulu caught up to him and Charlotte in Prague. In honor of Valentin’s latest comeback, Soap Opera Digest takes a look back at the eventful life he’s led since his introduction on Cassadine Island back in 2016. Valentin made quite the first impression in 2016, when a number of Port Charles residents traveled to Cassadine Island and he took them hostage. After forcing Nikolas to sign over control of the Cassadine empire, Valentin shot him and Nikolas was presumed dead. He also shot Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) before Lulu (Emme Rylan, l.), Laura (Genie Francis) and the rest of the captives managed to flee.

After making his way to Port Charles, Valentin wooed Nina (then played by Michelle Stafford), who also fell in love with his little girl, Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez) — who, thanks to Helena's machinations, was also the biological daughter of Lulu. By year's end, Nina and Valentin had tied the knot.

In 2017, more of Valentin's backstory was illuminated, including how he had been rejected by Anna (Finola Hughes) during their days as WSB trainees. Valentin recalled that they had been lovers, but it was eventually revealed that her wily twin, Alex, had actually been the one to seduce him. Valentin's pull to Anna was a monkey wrench in his relationship with Nina.

Young Spencer wanted Valentin to pay for killing Nikolas, but in 2017, Valentin got Ava (whose face had been badly burned in a fire) to tank Spencer's case by offering her the chance to have her beauty restored by Dr. Klein at a clinic in Russia.

In 2018, viewers learned that after Anna gave birth to Faison's child and put him up for adoption, Valentin had tracked down the boy and delivered him to Faison. The infant grew up to be the nefarious Peter August (Wes Ramsey), also known as Henrik Faison. Eventually, it was revealed that Alex, not Anna, was his mother.

Valentin was thisclose to getting Nina (Cynthia Watros) to remarry him in 2019 when he was busted for having paid Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) to pose as Nina's missing daughter. Heartbroken, Nina called off the nuptials.

When Ava wouldn't play ball with him regarding the codicil to Mikkos's will that threatened his hold on the Cassadine estate, Valentin found what he hoped would be a simple solution: pushing her off the Wyndemere turret to her death on New Year's Eve in 2019. Unluckily for Valentin, Nikolas rescued her.

In 2020, the rug was pulled out from under Valentin when he discovered that he was not Mikkos Cassadine's son, after all — but he was Helena's (Constance Towers)! He drank himself into a stupor as he reeled from the news, conjuring up a visit from his late mother. Because he was no longer the true Cassadine heir, control of the estate reverted back to Nikolas.

In 2021, Valentin was led to believe that little Bailey was his daughter, the product of his one-night stand with Brook Lynn. In actuality, the child was Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Peter's. Valentin was heartbroken when he realized the truth.

Valentin faced an arduous recovery after Peter shot him in Greece in 2021.

Other big DNA news awaited Valentin in 2021: He found out that his biological father was a blood Cassadine after all — but it was the nefarious Victor (Charles Shaughnessy), not Mikkos.

In 2022, Anna and Valentin finally consummated their slow-burn romance after he came clean about his unholy alliance with Victor (he'd been forced to work with his father because Victor threatened Charlotte). The two then worked together to rescue Charlotte and from Victor's clutches and take down Valentin's not-so-dear dad once and for all.

Valentin, who had managed to seize control of ELQ in 2020, struck a deal with Ned (Wally Kurth) in 2022 to remain as CEO in exchange for Ned becoming Chairman of the Board.

Valentin and Anna's relationship hit a major snag in 2023 when Anna accidentally shot Charlotte, who had been secretly stalking Anna (a fact Valentin concealed from his lover to protect his daughter).

In 2024, with the authorities coming after him for his role in the Pikeman organization, Valentin fled Port Charles with Charlotte at Anna's heartbroken urging.

At year's end, Lulu — who had recently emerged from a years-long coma — tracked Valentin and Charlotte down in Prague. Valentin gave Charlotte the choice of whether she wanted to remain on the run with him or return to Port Charles with her mother. Charlotte opted to stay with her dad.

In January 2025, Valentin resurfaced — this time, in Baden Baden. He sneaked into a spa and crept up on Brennan, poised to do him harm....
